Default Which Dell?

Which Dell system is better suited to running Reaper? Optiplex, Vostro, Inspiron?

I am thinking about an i5, 3.1gHz processor with 4 GB memory.

Thanks for any insights

No Dell computer will give you what you're looking for.

Between DPC Latency and build quality, I would suggest getting one custom built for DAW work. It is not a difficult process, but it will not be as cheap as a Dell.

As with anything else, you get what you pay for.

If you're absolutely dead set on getting a Dell, the Vostro and Inspiron desktop model lines are fairly decent. The Inspiron is the more common of the two. The Optiplex line is just ugly, and not much good.

I'm no pro, but I have an Alienware (dell) M11x with an i7 and 4g ram and I've never felt like reaper even came close to pushing it. Those things have more balls than anything else I've found in the price range.

Take a look at a good Vaio, i've had one in the past, the Nvidia graphic card wasn't well developed, so it kill my motherboard ( after more investigation, i've find that a lot of laptop of other brand had the same problem with this F***ing GC... 8400mgt if i have good remember )
But the other componant are really good, and there were a lot of plugs, like a mini firewire, an express card... i miss this computer , now i have an Asus i've take it because of the price/quality, i like it too, but... the Vaio got "something" more.

I agree with the custom building idea. While desktops are easier to make work than notebooks, it's still cheaper to build a desktop.

I built an i7 machine that is more powerful than anything I've seen or will likely need until 192kHz sample rate is the norm
