Default can midi input reach a Midi Item FX VSTi?

Imagine a track with no Fx
I put 1 vsti synth as FX of a midi item. Midi input doesn't not reach there.
Is there a way to change this? :P and re record a midi item?

Thank you

Midi can be routed all over the place in Reaper.

May be someone correct me, but I do not think that is possible.
Since FX in item is bound to take, not the item as a whole, that has a chance to work in replace/overdub mode only. But it does not, at least for me.
I guess the sequence is "play->record", so the take material is played before something new is recorded and once new notes are there it is "too late". The goal of take FX is process the information in this (and only this) take, so it is not processing anything else (live, sends, etc.)

You are right !

I tested that indeed (without any additional steps) the Midi stream in the FX chain in a Midi item does not hold the midi data the FX chain of the track's FX chain.

But vice versa, the track FX chain receives the Midi output of the item's FX chain, but only as long as the item is actively playing.

Seems to make sense.

Midi input to a plugin from a Midi Bus does not seem to do the trick, either .

I do this by arming the track and turning on monitoring. But, as mentioned, it won't work on item effects. It does work if the VSTI is in the track effects.

From the film. The phrase is "different strokes for different folks" - meaning that different things or methods work for, or are enjoyed by, different people.
