Default Playback cursor jerks (Mac OS)

Hi! It's needed to solve the problem with playback cursor. It looks terrible on Mac OS. Its update frequency needs to be faster than right now, not less than 60 Hz. FPS is just too small to look smoothy. Please fix it ASAP. This problem is pretty old and well known, but it's still not solved.

- What OSX version do you run ?
- Do you have Dark mode enabled in Reaper ?
- Do you experience the issue in both Main Edit window and MIDI
Editor or only in MIDI Editor ?

1. I use the latest version of Catalina;
2. I use basic Reaper 6 theme and don't use dark mode;
3. The problem I mentioned is in both Main Edit window and MIDI.

Any ideas?

Ok..

- Is your Project samplerate the same as the audio hardware samplerate ?
- Are you using audiofiles in a Project which samplerate is different than the Project samplerate ?

There's no any difference between empty projects and the projects full of tracks.

It's a known problem and afair, it needs a lot of overhaul in Reaper's code to fix that. A lot of dependencies are in there, so boosting up the update frequency influences other parts of Reaper as well, including ReaScript.

So it'll take a while til the devs will attempt this, I guess.

I don’t have any problems with my Windows laptops. Only with Mac.

Well, the problem still exists and nobody knows nothing. I'm shocked to be honest.

I must disagree with this statement. I have a cMP 5.1 3,46 GHz with a Radeon Pulse RX580. Attaching two 2.5 K Displays and having the refresh set to 60 Hz the metering even with a lot of tracks open is super smooth. Hence a refresh rate of 60 Hz appears more than adequate to me.

But yes the moving of the playhead line is far from this smooth behaviour. Especially when you compare it to Logic Pro X 10.5.1… it is worlds apart.

This probably can be enhanced but the amount of recoding is beyond my knowledge. So we obviously have to wait…
