No, what you used to create custom actions, everybody else can, too.

I'm no themer by no means, but if something like this existed in Reaper, I would be inspired to do more as far as theming is concerned. More votes needed.

Since this FR is ridiculously old, I didn't remember and wanted to vote for it.
I couldn't. I have already done (in ancient times, I suspect ).

To indulge in speculation ... and perhaps to show the Devs exactly what we plan to do with this FR if/when we get it , maybe we could outline what we plan to use it for ...
I've already mentioned a mini transport built into the master_mcp.
Here are some more idle clouds in my coffee :-
- custom FX-chain buttons on custom layouts
- transpose buttons on MIDI track layouts
- specific custom layout buttons, on different layouts
- MONO/STEREO buttons (via custom macros) on mcp (sigh)
- halftime/doubletime buttons on transport and master_tcp
- extmixer on tcp, maybe even a master extmixer on the transport (why not?)
- freeze buttons on mcp and tcp
- a "duplicate track" button, ON the actual track! (instead of right-click or menu)
I can think of lots more ...

TCP
Layout Buttons
MCP
Layout buttons
Folder creation buttons
Master MCP
Monitor FX show
Monitor FX Bypass
Render button
I am sure i would think of/have forgotten more, but as it has been so long since this was first discussed i am not hopeful anymore of this ever happening.

Taken to its logical extreme, one could have an mcp strip with, if they were small enough, literally hundreds of buttons on it, so much so that it will look like a floating toolbar with a meter on it

Not quite true... This would be extremely useful to implement some custom actions directly on TCP/MCP, for example. Like a dedicated track freeze button.
You're overruled by 150 votes anyways, heheh.

I wanted to vote.. but I see I already voted.. damn.. haha...
Anyway... the alternative to have a mouse modifier to show a floating toolbar at mouse position is good. And maybe easier to customize without touching walter. But we need MORE TOOLBARS :/

Well, I guess that's the problem right there. People who do not have HUUGE brain sizes typically prefer to have them on a screen instead of in their head.

Well its all goes to same conclusion that everyone has its own workflow. For me i don't need all this stuff you mention. I just need all my frequently used actions at my mouse to work fast...which doesn't mean i don't like your idea. Its just not for everyone... the same as my approach lol

More i think to this FR more i think it is absolutely awesome.
And it will be even better if devs could add another docked area to walter, that could be used as an ispector. In synergy with this FR you could build the perfect ispector that works for you, with the functions that you need, and leave the track control panel clean without the mess of tons of UI elements to fit inside it.
This would be one of the best things to see in Reaper 5, imho.

2017 bump and +1 from my side.
This would liberate in a way the whole toolbar design possibilities. And also would lead to another level of theming!
