Default M-Audio Ozone

I'm currently trying to use the M-Audio Ozone in Reaper.

Audio works, but midi unfortunately not. The Ozone Midi input is activated in Reaper but no signal is received.

It works in LMMS, Waveform and Polyphone.

Does anyone have a hint?

You need to activate the midi input from settings, it won't activated automatically

I already wrote above that it is activated.

If you are using JACK try switching to ALSA or vice-versa.

I used to use two M-Audio PCI Delta 2496 cards and had to use JACK because I could never get midi with ALSA to work. I believe that something upstream had a lock on it.

Anyway, I switched to JACK with those cards, and used the RAW option in qjackctl. Now I use a Behringer UMV1820/ADA8200 combo and they work fine using ALSA for both audio and midi.

Thanks, it works with jack.
My hope was that it works without jack like in all other apps.

If you don't find a solution, you can put something like this on the line of REAPER's audio configuration panel to start JACK automatically with midi.

/usr/bin/jackd -P80 -dalsa -dhw:M2496 -r44100 -p64 -n2 -Xseq

You would need to replace M2496 with whatever name your Ozone has. The -Xseq was what made midi work for me with that line, and I could just launch REAPER without having to first get JACK running.

Note: The P80 is priority, and if you haven't given yourself higher priorities in limits.conf, that argument will throw an error.

I have the same problem with the Ozone and Reaper, both on Linux and Windows.

I can't get the Ozone to be recognised by Manjaro at all unless I boot into Windows first, initiate the Ozone, and then boot into Manjaro (ALSA). The Ozone works with every app I tried on either platform, but I can't get its MIDI input to work in Reaper.

Thanks.

Update:

Managed to install madfuload using yay. Now I don't have to boot into Windows first.

Reaper refuses to play nice with Jack (or vice versa), so getting it to recognise the Ozone MIDI input is still a no go.

As for Windows, the Ozone MIDI input now works with Reaper too. It was obviously an operator error. Since the situation initially seemed to be the same as on Linux, I evidently gave up too soon and did not fiddle enough with the settings in Reaper.

I'm still hoping to find the solution on Linux, as I use the laptop/Reaper/Ozone combo exclusively for MIDI sequencing on the road, for which the Ozone is supremely practical due to its built-in audio interface.

But it is strange that when using alsa, midi control messages are recognized by Reaper, but not midi notes.
