Default Reaper only using 2 of the 4 threads available on my Core-i3 laptop

I have noticed for some time now that reaper only uses 2 of the 4 available threads on my laptop. Once my processing hits 45% usage the sound begins to glitch and at 50% usage the laptop goes off. I only experience this with reaper. Please is there a way I can get around this?

If 2 of threads are hyper threads, they probably can't participate much in audio processing. 45-50% CPU usage would be close to the maximum that is possible to do on the computer. It turning off probably means it overheats already and it would just turn off earlier if it was possible to use more of the CPU.
