Default How to reset changes to default in 'Theme tweaker'?

Hi,
I know nothing about theme making but do want to make some very basic tweaks, to colors mainly.

But before I go ahead and experiment, I just want to make sure I can default back to the original settings if I don't like my changes.
And I mean at an individual element level. I know I could of course just make a backup of the Theme file itself but I'm just imagining moving along with my changes, being maybe happy with the first 5 changes I made and then on the next I mess up and just want to go back to the default color on this last element of the theme...can it be done?
Are these changes recorded in the Undo history?
Thx!

If you are going to be editing/replacing images in a theme zip folder and/or editing the rtconfig.txt file then definitely make a copy of the theme file first... These edits are not recorded in reaper's undo history.

Choosing option, themes, default at any point will, I believe, reset your reaper back to default 5.0 theme...

As far as I know there's no UNDO history for element changes in the 'Theme development: Show theme tweak/configuration window'.
So it's probably faster to make regular backup saves of the Theme file before trying out further changes.

EDIT: In addition you can also compare element values in the original and edited Theme file and change default values back by editing the file.

I have just changed the "Window background" in the Theme Tweaker, then clicked [Load theme] and selected a theme. The window background colour changed back to the original colour.

Yeah, but this resets all (unsaved) changes. So this won't work if you changed, for instance, 5 different elements in a row and only want to reset the last one (change #5).

Yup, Solger understood my concerns correctly.

A couple of ideas

First, if you use portable install, you can copy the directory and experiment with the copy, making changes in the real one when you're satisfied. You can even copy your tweaked version into the original instead of making changes again.

Second, if you save the theme after making changes in the tweaker, you can always revert back if needed. Just use a fresh name when you save. You can do this every few changes.

This doesn't work like undo for just the last change, but it will get you back to "default"

Any time I do this, I just make incremental saves. Change 5 elements, save a copy of the theme, change a few more, save a new one, etc. Hardly elegant, but it keeps me from screwing things up too badly.

Yes, I guess that's the way to go...unfortunately. Too bad there can't be either an undo history or a reset function for each element.

Thanks to all for the ideas and help!

I use Notepad++. It saves its undo history beyond save points.

/thread, I believe

White Tie, best alternative I guess but...how does that work in practice?

I mean, if you want to choose a color for some element in the GUI, how do you go about it?
Surely you don't know every color and it's gradient by number so you have to use the Theme Tweaker in Reaper to choose, right?

So, do you have Notepad++ open while you make changes in Reaper, does that work? Can you have two programs accessing and modifying the same file at the same time?

Just curious, if you could clarify how exactly you go about that in practice?
Thx!
