Default Item fades affect video not working on mp4?

Windows 10, reaper 6.82.

Using an .mp4 file, I couldn't get "item fades affect video" to work.

Converted the file to AVI and it worked fine.

Is that to be expected?

not expected behavior but I recall someone noticing this in another thread within the past 3 weeks. I can't find that thread.

It would be helpful to know which decoder you're using for the video.

Thanks so much for the speedy reply.

Thanks. Does this help?

Video: 1920x1080@29.92fps, Aspect=1.00, Decoding format=I420/YV12
Audio: 48000Hz 2ch 32bps

Using VLC decoder (v3.0.x) for video and audio

Video: hevc
Audio: mp4a

That's great, thanks.
I think it has something to do with HEVC / H.265.

It's not likely to be fixed in a 6.X update

Thanks for explaining. When I finally go up to Reaper 7 i'll test it then and submit a report if it's still a problem.

Thanks again
