Default VST Paths List

Are the VST paths stored in a txt file? I'd like to back it up automatically. I have several different paths that are a PITA to find. Otherwise I suppose I can just copy and paste to notepad.

Does anyone force all of their VST installs to the same folder? I guess that would make life simpler.

You can set/check paths in preferences->vst

I have paths
For plugins need to be installed
Code:
 C:\Installed plugins\
And for pluggins which function portable/dll only:

Code:
Desktop\Reaper folder\Plugins

I have Reaper portable installation so I can copy all my shiet together always

Hi,

The paths are stored in the reaper.ini file.
'vstpath = ' and 'vst64path = ' are the lines you're looking for.

However, you can export all or parts of your current configuration from Reaper preferences\General. Exporting will create a zip with all the relevant config files, themes, menus, etc. that can be imported when required.

I force all my vst installs to the following folders -

C:\vstplugins\unused32\<developer> (for those where I can't prevent install of the 32 bit versions (Melda, iZotope, Native Instruments...)
C:\vstplugins\32\<developer>
C:\vstplugins\64\<developer>

My path looks like - C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins;C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3;C:\vstplugins\32;C:\vstplugins\64

The first two are part of Reaper's default vst path.

Cheers
Rob

Those are some great ideas. Thanks Rob

Those 32bit plugins are used for the standalone apps, at least Native Instruments. It looks like you can delete the first two paths in your file

It is well worth setting up a shortcut to Reaper's Application Data (or equivalent on OSX). You never know when you need to get directly to those files. (Especially when you have accidentally put "C:" in your VST paths list )

I definitely need the first two paths - I have Cubase installed and there are some useable VSTs (Padshop, etc.), also some devs default to the Steinberg paths.
