Default Using PC Keyboard to create drum sounds?

Hi.

Should it be easy to record a drum track using the 'real' keyboard?

I've just been playing around with the ReaDrums template, as per the User Guide and I can play and record my imported drum sounds using the Midi Virtual keyboard. I can also play the sounds by hitting the appropriate real keyboard keys, provided I first click anywhere on the Virtual Keyboard.

The problem comes when I want to record something using only the real keyboard keys. If I click on 'record' and then try to use the real keyboard I hear a 'bong' sound, persumably to warn me that I'm using the wrong input. However if I click record then click once on the virtual keyboard, I can continue to create drum sounds using the real keyboard.

Is there a way I can start recording and immediately enter drum sounds using the keyboard?

Thanks.
