Introducing My Noob-self and Questions
Hello. I downloaded and installed Reaper on my studio computer tonite. I am a long time CW Sonar user, and because CW Sonar had problems, I have decided to switch to Reaper.
So I wanted to introduce myself and apologize in advance for the obvious questions I will be asking tonite and into the future.
So onto the questions:
1) Reaper must have a demo project somewhere I can download to make sure the software is working and audio and midi playback is occurring as it should. Where can I find such a demo project?
2) When I save a project in Reaper, where does it get saved? If I save an audio file, where does that get saved?
3) There is probably a configuration page I can access to tell Reaper what audio drivers to use, what sample rate and bit depth to use, where to find plug-in .dlls, etc. How do I access the configuration page?
I have downloaded the User Manual .pdf file, so if the answers to these questions can be found in the Users Manual, feel free to tell me "It's in the Users Manual fool, look it up." (I admit it, I haven't looked in the Users Manual yet.) Oh, and I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum. I need to familiarize myself with the web-site.
Thanks.

Welcome
Make sure you download the Quick Start Guide on the same page as the manual but under Topic Specific Guides.

There is also a "Sonar to Reaper" guide in that same section.

Better than a demo project, go here and get the extra cool plugin from azslow3, and start loading your Sonar projects directly into REAPER.

In REAPER's preferences for projects, you can set the paths.

If you click the top right of REAPER where it is showing the current sample rate, bit depth and latency, it will bring up the audio configuration page, which is also available from preferences.

Most everything you need to know is in the manual, but many Ex-Sonar users are here and can answer your questions too. I left Sonar for REAPER 10 years ago at Sonar 5.
Welcome to the group BTW.

Sort of. The PDF User Guide that you already has has some links to some project files used in examples throughout the book. I'm away from the studio now so can't give you exact details, but it's near the beginning, in the preamble pages.
PS Welcome from one ex Sonar user to another!

Thank you Karbomusic, Glennbo, and Nicholas for your helpful replies. Tomorrow I will sit down for some quality time with Reaper and the User Manual.
Glennbo, I am very interested in the plug-in that will allow me to load my Sonar projects in Reaper. I have a fair number of Sonar projects, and I have been dreading the work I have to do to bring those projects into Reaper. It would be a tremendous benefit for me if I can automate this task; if it works well, this would be like Christmas for me. So this plug-in is legit? no viruses? works well? cost?

The Sonar to REAPER add on is by azslow3, who is a recent and brilliant Sonar refugee. His add on which you simply copy into a folder of REAPER lets you then directly load up your existing Sonar projects.
I switched to REAPER 10 years ago, but when I got his converter, I converted a bunch of my old Sonar projects into REAPER projects in case I ever wanted to re-visit or re-mix any of them. It's very cool!

Hi BbAltered
It really is worth taking the time to watch all thirty of Kenny Gioia's REAPER Explained videos. I'm still picking REAPER up really, even though I have had it since 2015. I have since started using REAPER again because Studio One isn't working very well with my new Surface Pro, hence my current dive into REAPER.
Watch all of them... Only took me around ten days or so, but you could binge watch them in a couple. If you miss one, because you think it doesn't apply to what you do, you could miss a gem.
cheers
