Default Five Minute Load Time For Reaper 5.90

Reaper is consistently taking about 304 seconds to load on my MacOS system.

It's spending a full 5 minutes with the message "Loading JS..."

I used to use Reaper on a daily basis and it would load in maybe 2-3 seconds. I put my audio project on hold last September. Both Reaper and MacOS have been updated since then. Earlier this spring I was seeing the issue with v 5.80. I have since uninstalled and done a new install with 5.90.

Here is my system profile.

Intel i7 3.4 GHz processor
32 GB RAM
512 GB SSD
macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 (no outstanding updates)
Reaper 5.90

Any suggestions as to where to begin troubleshooting?

If you're running any extensions, make sure they're updated.

Also check your REAPER resources folder and check if there's anything odd in there, or you can try removing stuff that may be culprit.

Also when it's loading up, open Activity Monitor in MacOS and sort by CPU usage and see if you can ascertain if anything is causing it to hang.

Thanks for the pointers.

I'm not running any extensions that I'm aware of. I have deleted all Reaper-specific files/directories from my system and done a fresh install several times. That includes the application and ~/Library/Application Support/REAPER.

Activity monitor isn't giving any meaningful info. There's nothing relevant near the top of the CPU sorted list. Reaper itself is using 0.0% CPU while it apparently times out during the five-minute startup. Once the application opens, it's using about 2% CPU when idle.

Default Resolved

I did some further digging and cleaning of directories on my system.

I discovered remnants of a JACK server install on my system (http://www.jackosx.com/). This didn't seem to be an issue with earlier versions of OSX and/or Reaper, but cleaning the directory and rebooting seems to have resolved the issue.

For posterity, the directories in question were located under /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST and /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components.

Reaper is now booting in 2-3 seconds.
