Sorry i can't help you but i just wanted to say that's exactly a longtime standing issue for me also,which drives me nuts for ages.
I am also on version 5.23pre5 (osx) but the issue for me goes way way back.

That not only affects me every so often but it's one I get a few phone calls a year about from confused new reaper guys

It is true, sorry i didnt mention this. I just typed version that I was using when showing this bug but it was way before also.

Thanks for the report. If somebody would post a simple .RPP that demonstrates the problem, along with their reaper.ini (so we can be sure to test the right combination of user settings) that would be great.

[edit] never mind, it's easy to reproduce with "snap both start/end" enabled.

In 5.23 rc2
ITEMS ARE NOT DANCING ANYMORE.
I tested multiple grid settings in multiple cases
Thank you very much for fixing this.

To not making new thread:

on these settings

When I extend or shorten my item.
Place cursor on right side of item and drag to grid.
Then when I place the cursor on left side and drag,
I can't get back to grid on left edge of item,
it will only snap to relative position.
Only way to make items left edge back to grid is to resize back it.
I think it should snap
to both grid and relative position on these settings.
Hope gif will show it more precisely.
