Why does Linux Reaper still look like Windows 98?
It was my understanding that the "rough edges" of Reaper's UI were that way because it's more efficient to let the OS render some elements or something to that effect.
But then why does everything look exactly the same under Linux, when every other app is looking uniform and well integrated? E.g. I was able to make the titlebar darker in Windows with some hacky theme workarounds that threatened to break the system at every update. I don't find a way to affect it in Linux even though every other titlebar is already dark. What gives?

That's what I did to get all the ReaPlugins to have this dark look I prefer. |

Feed the Cat’s script is pure awesome sauce! I used to edit the libSwell config-file by hand before I realized it existed.
Protip. If you open the "libSwell-user.colortheme" that the script produce in the resource folder, you can change the Reaper system font from "Liberation Sans" to whatever you want, if you want to match your theme fonts for example. It's the first line in the file. Another tip for anyone who might not like the default white colour of the faders in the rea-plugins, you can easily change them by unzipping your theme file and swapping out the images gen_volbg_horz.png, gen_volbg_vert.png, gen_volthumb_horz.png, and gen_volthumb_vert.png. The size/dimensions of these are designed to scale up/down, so you can just pick what you like from pretty much any theme in the stash. Or, since most themers tend to leave them white, you can re-colour them yourself in GIMP, or create your own in knobman, just don’t mess with the pink lines in the corners, they’re for the aforementioned scaling. Here’s a few examples: So far, the only thing that I haven't been able to tweak in Reaper, is the font of the tabs, and the font colour of the note-names in the midi editor in "named notes" mode, though I think the latter should be possible. Not that tweaking the Reaper UI is necessary, I happen to be one those weirdos who think reaper is beautiful just the way it is, but it's totally possible. Between the tweak/configuration window and libSwell, and contrary to popular belief, you can do anything you want, pretty much. Luckily, Windoze 98 is not a fate anyone needs to endure any more.. |
