Default "Item fade effects video" darkens video if I turn down the volume

I making videos that consist of tons of short clips, so I like the idea of them fading between clips. However, some clips are louder than others, so I need to turn them down. When I turn them down, the "Item fade effects video" FX on the track also darkens the video the more I turn it down. Any workaround for this? Something else that fades the video easily? All the clips are on one track. There are dozens of clips, so creating a separate track for each one is not really feasible. Thanks all.

Perhaps add the opacity/zoom/pan video processor instead and automate the opacity value.

Or keep the item fades affect video and automate track volume, or change item volume in the properties.

Is there a way to quickly set the automation based on the preexisting fades on each item? The thing I want to avoid is needing to go in and change something for each item individually. It would be very time consuming. My process is pretty streamlined right now: Add clips, randomize them, normalize each item to -14 LUFS with SWS, error check, and render. My template has and intro and outro already in the tracks, a compressor on the video track to help cut down transients, and a limiter on the master track to prevent clipping.

I've asked the same question some time ago and this was the only answer I got:

Yeah, this is what I tried as well. The issue is when I need to move items or cut them up. I have to make sure I am doing everything the same to both the video and audio items. There is probably a way to switch around the steps in my editing process to leave the separating until the end. I will keep trying to refine it.

This is imo best solved with grouping the items (vertically).
There's a nice script for it:

edit:
To get the behaviour seen in the video (selecting one item selects both/all in a group) you also need to have these options enabled (rightclick on toolbar button):

Suggestion:

0- Keep audio & video on the same track like you want.
1- Adjust the audio volume to the desired level, take note of the DB level substracted and then put back item maximum volume to full
2- go to item properties and adjust item volume to the DB found in step one

you should get hopefully the same audio result without the video side effect.

Hope this works for you!
