How do I make Linux recognize RME Hammerfall Multiface?
Hello.
I am trying to make a switch from Win 7 to Linux and use the native version of Reaper. Since the two operating systems are so different (at least to me who is a complete beginner when it comes to Linux), I am at a loss as to how to go about properly installing and have Linux and Reaper recognize the audio interface. If anybody can show me a few pointers and let me know how I shall approach this, it would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance and have a lovely day! Rosetree |

I have done some quick search and looks like you'll need to do some manual setup as the interface is not class compliant.
Please see read these links: http://pd.klingt.org/files/hdsp-howto.html https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?id=18408 https://www.linuxjournal.com/article/7024 I hope this helps. |

Thank you!!
Thank you so much for your input.
Although the instructions seem rather difficult for a complete Linux novice like myself, I will have a look at them and give them a try. Have a great day! Rosetree |

I use multiface on linux for years and it s super stable and my preferred soundcard. but there is always some quirks during the first setup.
what is your linux distro? what you always need to have installed is the alsa-firmware-loaders and the alsa-utils these have the drivers and a gui for the hdspmixer etc... there are some cases it still does not work and you need to compile the alsa firmware from source. this sounds horrible but is totally doable in this case |

You guys should check Pulse Audio and either set it to use your motherboard audio or none, so there's no chance that Pulse is grabbing the device and making it unavailable to REAPER.

Thank you!
Hello.
I use Mint 19.3 I actually sort of succeded in having the interface recognized. However, when I play back music through it, I hear weird echo kind of sound as well as glitches. Also, the hdsp mixer is very old and is of the year 2003. I am wondering if there is a way to use Totalmix. If you are familiar with getting the latest mixer version available for Linux, it would be greatly appreciated if you could show me how I can go about getting it. Thank you and have a great day!
