Default Reaper v3.76/x64 hangs on windows 7

Configuration:
===============
Asus laptop
Windows 7 x64
Reaper v3.76/x64 rev c31a32
M-Audio Mobile Pre USB
Firmware: 1.0.3
Driver version 5.10.00.5131
Yellow Independence Free 2.5.4

Description:
=============
Any time after I start reaper with default project (2 independence free tracks and about 7 audio tracks) it may hang and say "Not responding". I have to kill it off and start it again. I lose my work. It can hang when:
1) I just started it up and click on a single button
2) After some idle time
3) After 20 minutes of playing a track without recording
4) It's done it twice while I registered on the forum and typed this email, and all I did was start Reaper, move/group some tracks, and hit Play
Notes:
a) The M-Audio interface appears to be stable after the problem occurs
b) It appears to have gotten better since I switched to Reaper x64 - it was horrible before that.

Is there anything I can do to isolate the problem? I've tried messing with VST bridging options but that didn't seem to do much.

Thanks,
Matt

Tried to start Reaper with factory settings restored? (start menu: REAPER (reset configuration to factory defaults))

Do have this only with that project/vsts? (Reaper without any tracks/instruments runs stable?)

9 out of 10 times issues are with a vst or audio drivers - if you have the latest drivers, try a project without using the YT vst. There are many free vsts around - do a search on this forum for a few names and try one of these and see how you make out.

I've reset to factory default and re-added my VST path. So far so good - but I've had good days before. If it starts happening again I'll render the VST tracks and delete them. Thank you.
