Third Person Video
I've been experimenting with 360 video cameras for creative purposes. I've used them some at gigs which is cool when using overcapture/freecapture modes which is manipulating the projection, panning and so on with key frames instead of forcing the user to interact. It's like having a camera rig after the fact.
It's especially cool when moving around, so I took a walk uptown today, shot a few clips, edited and tossed some music on top. Not done in Reaper unfortunately, mostly because I just grabbed a 20 year old jam from my "use me someday" folder and dropped into a project I already had going in Davinci Resolve. The camera is in my hand at all times FYI...

Very cool! I'm one of those people that can get motion sickness from those types of shots so I didn't watch it all but what I saw was pretty cool!
Oh, yeah, THROW THOSE CIGARETTES AWAY!

Awesome! Trippy as hell, having a hard time wrapping my head around some bits(look kinda drone-shot in parts). Great strolling soundtrack too.

That looks amazing!
More entertaining than 98% of music videos I've seen.
Cool jam too.

Well done - I really dig the 'little planet' viewpoint.

What a cool effect. Glad I wasn't tripping on acid when I watched!

What's cool is I have total control of what the viewer sees after the fact, as in I get to be their eyes/head. I may pull some of this same video and edit it that fashion instead of the FX approach.
In the video in this post, I was just enamored with the stoner aspect but there is this entire other cinematic thing I can do with sort of replicating first person after the fact. Will post once I get a chance to do that.

So does the camera have multiple sensors? I remember someone made a ball with multiple sensors and an accelerometer. You throw it in the air, it senses the motion and all the camera heads start recording.
So is your hand held camera something along those lines but with manual start and stop and hand held. Software does all the stitching automatically, but gives you control to navigate within the sphere?

It's a 360 cam so it has two 220 degree lenses, one on each side and records @5.7k. I just hit record and walk around with it, with no regard as to where I point it. Later in post, I can pan, zoom, crop, change projections or whatever view I want out of the 360 degrees of space and as I mark a new keyframe for each new view, the software automatically morphs between each view I pick out which is what you are seeing in the one I posted. AKA, I pointed the view to look at the girl on the bench on purpose after the fact for example.
So yea, I have 100% control of what is shown in a 1080p result by panning where I want etc., or I could just export it as a true 360 but no one, including me really cares for true 360 vids.

Veddy cool! The ball cam I was thinking of is the Panono, which has 36 camera sensors and only does stills. Not quite as cool except for the throw it in the air thing.

Gotcha, it actually does that if you buy their styrofoam plane thingy to put it in, then you do the panning in post...
