This is an obviously a very over-covered cover - Since I did all the work on it I'm uploading it to get it behind me. One reason I chose it was because a number of the sung notes are non-chord tones such as the fourth and so on which is good practice. FYI, I did overdub the one bg vocal because it's pretty important to the energy build near the end but otherwise it's live. I also switched to my Martin guitar and I'm stomping the tambourine with my foot.
Another reason is that I tried to play/sing/record it live in my studio six years ago and it turned out embarrassingly terrible - so terrible you'll never hear that version. But I quit smoking 5 years ago last month, so the video series is also a celebration of not smoking and actually being able to form notes and sing them for any length of time without running out of breath and coughing my ass off.
So I guess in all honesty, I didn't create these in the past because I literally couldn't. It's not great but far better than the attempt before - I think it's better towards the 2nd half than the first. Vox is pretty loud but so is the original recording. Since the "mix" happens during the performance, not much I can do about it.
I have two more covers in the pipeline (then maybe back to original tunes). One I'll be posting within the next 24-72 hours - it's complete, just wanted to some additional work on the video editing. The other probably at least a week due to play/sing rhythmic challenges.

Wow, I feel it, good job karbo!
And congrats on quitting smoking and even more staying that way!
I have a problem with passive smoking here so I am multiple times glad as the crap that comes out... is ("ohh help me..bleh/shoot me")
You sir, are now bookmarked.
You know, I really dislike that song because it is from those two I really dislike because of their arrogance.
Actually it turns out to be not so bad a song when it is performed by a nice and kind person.Well done, again!
Nice touch of the backing vocal at the end also with the visual. I was already kinda miss it to be honest.
I was wondering: do you record without a click track?
And who is zooming the camera? I guess your wife?
Your smile at the end of the song tells me: you must have been very glad you made it and knew it was good!

Hi Paul... I agree!

Right, no click with these performances, hence no headphones or anything. In reality, when I'm recording it, it's just a live mic so I don't hear anything other than me playing and singing as if there were no recording happening. I'm not even sure it's the same tempo as the original as I was just playing what felt the best but I imagine its in the ballpark? I had learned the song years ago for a band I was in so I haven't really listened to the original lately.

Any motion/panning/zoom of the cameras is me faking it the video editor after I align the video with the audio in reaper.

I'm pretty sure I was just happy I didn't have a train wreck - you don't know how many times I get to the last 10 seconds and make some stupid mistake! To be honest, that's part of the fun of that challenge, not falling off the bike.

Seeing sometimes Reaper running in the background, one time showing 20:52:256 and also 22:09:418, I guess this was about the 5th take?
Yes but can't remember if all the other takes are the same song but I think they are, I can check. Since I had to start reaper and 3 other cameras etc. I was sloppy with where I placed the cursor in Reaper when I hit record but I think there are two takes before that one and possibly one after. And which ever takes I attempted on previous days since my projects for this video thing are arranged by date/date.
I haven't taken the time that I should to practice these much before hitting record, I should do that more since a number of my failed takes are in reality needing to practice the song more.

I totally dig these live recordings you are doing. Not only are they open, honest, and revealing, but also exhibit high end studio level quality. Your playing and vocals are also top notch.

Have to agree with Glennbo! I'm not familiar with the song and a few of the guitar parts just weren't registering with my ears for whatever reason but I'm sure it is NOT any problem with what you were doing! You are getting good at the video/audio combination. Recording sounds good noting that previously mentioned ear thing.
Oh, and one other thing... THE STACHE! You had a pretty cool Skunk Baxter thing going on!
will any kind of metronome be used I wonder in the future? beacause I just left Live for Bitwig, gonna fix REAPER up anyway when I get all my actions and scripts sorted again for this purpose, it would help but not sure what one Karbo would say
One reason I'm not using one for this series of live videos... I can't without wearing headphones etc. and if I can keep the rhythm on my own within reason, it's one less thing I have to pay attention to. I'm sure after move on from this particular type of video, a click could end up being involved.

Ha ha, still good. Maybe I don't think quite as good as the last one as far as the sound goes. I think I hear a little more room in this one and the guitar and vocal aren't quite as intimate.
But it still sounds good, better then any other acoustic guitar and vocal I've heard out there in a long time.
Another thing I might mention, it's pretty compressed or limited. What would happen if you just backed off a little bit. Although on the other hand, the vocal isn't that way, so maybe you're hitting a happy medium.
Another thing I'd like to say, I really like the songs your picking out to do this with. I can almost hear the various instruments playing in the back ground.
I agree on the compression, I need to try to that back a bit, got a little carried away and hearing you notice too makes it real. Thanks for checking it out, I have a new one almost ready, maybe I'll post tonight or tomorrow.
