I've attached a couple of screenshots when what i describe happens:
Routing to master, routing directly to stereo output and a third one,
the 'perceived routing' (if not partially since it might be that the stereo track mirrors to all outputs..)
Now this behaviour exists also if i route to the second pair (3-4) only or to mono outputs (in that case indeed 1 mirrors to 3 and 2 to 4 as you said).
For me the normal behaviour though, when no other specific routing exists, would be to just play on the selected channels.
If i wish to mirror or distribute in some other way the stereo file there is always the excellent rea-surround plugin.
As i said i work a lot with multichannel audio, most often interleaved files,
but there are cases where i need to monitor in stereo and in these situations this becomes a problem..
Perhaps there is a workaround?
