Default DX or VST

Ok ... Here's a question that will completely reveal me for the newbie that I am...

Which plugins eat less CPU ... DX or VST, or are they pretty much the same? Are there any significant advantages that one has over another?

Thanks for your answers and for being gentle with the clueless( that would be me) ;-)

I remeber wondering about this myself. If I remember correctly quality & CPU-consumption should be about the same.

Hi.

I've no idea about CPU usage, being a newbe myself but why not set up a comparison?

You could introduce a one track project and set up a DX on it and play it back while watching the Performance Meter (View/Show Performance Meter). Then replace the DX with a VST and see how the performance meter differs.

A sort of empirical rather than theoretical measurement.

I tried this using just the voice track on the 'Bad Sucks ...' project and couldn't see any real difference but then I only had the 'G.711 Codec' DX to play around with and I have absolutely no idea what that does.

Cheers.
