Moio,

I really like your project. I really like all the tracks, especially that they're all different. And yes, you are a very good guitarist. I know you had the other thread about the first track, which is by far the most complicated drum track, given the 7/8 time, interspersed with a couple of short non 7/8 fills. I am a real drummer, started when I was 12 and am now - older, but I have been working in the DAW world, first PT now Reaper for about 6 years. Back in the day (70s and 80s) I really appreciated and went to see some of the great fusion artists, Chick Corea and RTF, Weather Report, Tony Williams with Alan Holdsworth and Stanley Clarke to namedrop a few. Two years ago, the reunion of RTF came to St. Louis and it was great to here them play a lot of their old material - Lenny White was still amazing to watch/hear!

This first track is a real challenge, not only for a real drummer, but more importantly for where I'm at now, programming drum tracks to some of my song 'ideas'. I know by your comments and others in the thread about this track, that you used SSD, which you seem to be very familiar with, judging from most of the programming on all the tracks. You did a great job on the drums on the first track, even though as others have said and you agree, it could sound bigger and more live. I have had the AD Demo for a few months. I used to use an MPC1000 but could never get it to sound quite right in the genres I like and write. I am very close to buying the full version. My personal challenge with the first track is to come up with a programmed drum track that follows exactly your tempo(s), time signature(s) and feel. To that end I have made a copy of your track, inserted it as a stereo track in Reaper and am working on inserting markers for the tempo and time signatures to align with your audio track. I'm only partly through the track, but it's been a fun challenge to get the metronome to click along correctly all the way through the track.

I hope you don't mind that I've done this, as it's teaching me a lot about how to do tempo mapping. My initial goal is not to give you a full-on drum performance. Maybe it could turn in to that at some point (although it wouldn't be me playing live), but I've been improving and tweaking my own drum tracks on my shorter song 'ideas' for a while. The closer I get to buying the full version of AD, the more confident I am that I will be able to program some fairly complicated and 'real' sounding performances.

I know you want a real drummer to do this and for $79 a song with a live drum service, you're probably best off to go that way, as I have no mics, room, etc. to record my own set.

Thanks and again, great project!

Hey clkonkol,

no problem. Have fun with it! It's a pity you can't give it a try on your real drums ...

Cheers,

Hi moio,

Are you after a "remote" drummer (I'm in Oz)? I'm interested in talking to you more about this but couldn't send you a PM - could you PM me your email address and we can chat a bit more about what you're after and timeframes etc?

thanks
