Simple AND not simple. Excellent. The parts all collaborate and weave in and out of each other, but they don't clash, and the tension keeps the piece moving. It reminds me of good choreography. Super.

Yeah this is well done. It reminds me a little bit of some Mike Oldfield stuff.

I would say the arrangement skills are superior to the actual sounds used. The drums in particular, I don't they feel they quite do the playing and arrangement justice.

Thank you both for the kind words.

I love to create a nice melody and mood but fail when it comes to adding the drums. I've posted a few times asking for guidance in this area.
The drums are the only "stock" ie not my own work on this composition.
Simply borrowed from the drum vst pattern library. I've attempted on numerous occasions to develop my own, without success. I also need to shape them properly, correct eq, reverb etc.

Could anyone offer advice on what sort of drum track would complement this tune?

As for the sounds used for the rest of the track, any thoughts on how to change for the better?

Also, there's no mastering, just as is, a little tinkering within the vst plugins themselves but no effects on anything.

Thanks.

For the drums, I could see an African-style percussion track really giving it some energy and uniqueness. Or, you could go electronic and give it a very compressed synthy dance-style drum sound. Right now the beats are bit metronomic, and the kit sound is a bit blah.
But the composition and arrangement is really nice. I like the synths.
