Default Why does Reaper reset fades on copy-drag?

When I copy-drag an item with modified fade curves, why does it reset the curves to the default shape? I'd like the fades to keep their shape when copying items. Check it out here:

I guess this relates also to the issue that it isn't possible to relative-edge-edit fade curves (very annoying issue, for example if I make a drum fade out in one way, copy it all over the arrangement and later on decide it needs a different fade curve I need to edit one item, delete all others and redo the whole arrangement).

It's not doing it on the Win version.
Try and lock the item then Ctrl drag and see if it keeps the fade type.

I just tried it on the latest Mac version and it's fine, what is Preferences > Project > Media Item Defaults set to.

I tried in another project with another item and it behaves differently but even weirder. Now not both shapes reset but the one of the original item resets and the copy remains like the original shape was. And furthermore when dragging a second copy of the original item through the first copy it resets also the shape of the first copy.

I notice that the item in the gif I posted is unlocked but I tried it also with the locked item and it does exactly the same thing.

The preferences in my media item defaults are all unticked.

It seems to do it as you drag an item over an item, what are the crossfade settings on.
If you drag it to the track below see what it does rather than dragging over the top of the other.

When dragging to track below it keeps the shape as it should. I have the feeling there is some interference with crossfades but don't know why. My crossfade settings are exactly like yours.

You can try and reset to defaults by moving the folder <user>/Library/Application Support/REAPER
to the desktop then start Reaper and see if that fixes it then you know it's just a setting.

The weirdness still happens.

Only thing I changed was the preference to be able to adjust the curve with alt+leftdrag

Huh, that's weird. I also use alt+left drag to change the curve and it duplicates fine for me. Windows 10.

At this point I have no ideas anymore. Thought it might have been because I tweaked the sh*t out of Reaper but seems that wasn't the issue. Runs fine on other user's pcs as well as macs... so it isn't even a reproducible bug. I guess I just have to live with this (and few other things that only happen to me).

Hmm. Same bug. Win 10.
I tryin different settings - no changes. Portable version with default settings - same bug.

In addition, if you drag two items, then the second one moves the fade timing:

That's good someone else has the same issue, what if you download an older version and move the REAPER settings folder to the desktop first.

I have been having trouble with fades for quite a while.
Specifically crossfades, where I copy and drag to repeat an item and have them crossfade and overlap.

The crossfades dissappear, and all become fade ins - AFTER I have made them?

There is something buggy going on with overlapping files - and it seems consistent.

Hmm.. as more users seem to have various bugs related to fades/crossfades, I think it might be a good idea to post them all here and later on, maybe if we see a pattern, post a nice exhaustive bug report in the correct subforum?
Though I predict this hard to track/fix as behaviours are inconsistent across users with some users of different platforms experiencing the same bug and users of the same platform experiencing different bugs.. I guess the whole fade system might need a little revision.

Still same thing. Another thing I noticed (als in the new version) that the bug seems only to occur when working with an item containing an audio file. Empty or MIDI items do not have the problem.

Oh. I searched a bit, and apparently, this is quite an old bug:

Oh that's nasty... but I don't understand why some users experience it (on various systems) and others don't.

Ha! I found it! If option "Auto crossfade items when editing" (Alt+X) is on, we have a problem If its off, we have no bugs with fades!

Yeah that's it. But that's a pity because I like to have auto crossfades on. Guess the fastest workaround to do is pressing alt+x before dragging and after dragging.

There is some chance that this bug will finally be fixed. But right now, yes, if we want to preserve the fade shape, this key combination will help us. Not convenient, but reliable

Hmm.. I'll try and see if I can get used to that.
But now that we know where the issue lies I think I will do a bug report tomorrow or maybe better bump one of the other reports.
