Hi Bearcub !
Very nice job indeed ! As an admirer of both the Beatles and ELO, I'm afraid I have to express my congratulations to the work you made.
Four little criticisms :
- I think the main vocal is too dry. Maybe a little bit of reverb on it ?
- I already read it many times, but there's a lack of vocals for a Lynne-like song.
- The main guitar solo should have been bottlenecked.
- Choosing the mellotron choir sound is not the best thing for your intro. It sounds cheap to me and I think Richard Tandy would have taken something more aerial, "spacy"
Of course, it's my subjective opinion.

Does it interest you if I try to add the vocals I hear when I listen to your song ?

Alright, took a while to finish properly, but here is an updated mix of this.

I kept the vocals dry, as it's an important part of the Lynne sound in my opinion.

It's a new lead vocal take recorded with a better mic, new gretsch snare and it contains some of Benf's wonderful backingvocal work.

NEW VERSION:

It's in Wav, 16 bit.

Wow, I got a notice for this after 3 years!!!
But I remembered the song after I heard it again.
Nice adds from Benf and sounds more polished overall.
Vocals sound better too (not just the mic).
Still catchy as hell.

I love this song! Played your first mix to death!

I'd buy the CD right now!

Thanks for putting this up. Nice mix. I'm listening to it now on my ear buds. Nice bottom end, good balance.

Hi Bearcub,
Nice to hear from you.
Listened to the song in very bad conditions (desktop mono speaker !), but it already seem to me the lead vocal is much better. I'll tell you more tonight.

Well this is GREAT!! I suck on mixing so I just comment the song and this is just GREAT!!
Have great nostalgic feeling about this. Listened/danced a lot to 'a new world record' in my teens.

Back after hearing in better conditions.
As I said at first, the lead vocal is better with your new mike. Dubbing the lead on the choruses is fine too. I like very much the crackles on the intro. With it, I understand what you wanted to do with the sound I have judged "cheap" at first.
A little criticize : I think you should have let the last vocoder intervention long a little bit more. As is, it's cut a little bit abruptly.

Wow, I'm surprised that some of you remember the song, as Sammy pointed out it's now 3 years since it was written.

Thanks a lot for the positive comments, I'm happy if it ended up being a decent tribute to this kind of style.
