Default Combo Model V

Hi all,

I've just published a beta release of my very first handmade VSTi plug-in: Combo Model V. It's a freeware combo (transistor) organ simulation, modelled after a well-known combo organ from the 1960s:

For more info, audio demos, or to download the (Windows-only, sorry!) installer, point your browser to:
http://www.martinic.com/combov/

If you have any questions or comments, please let me know.

I feel a little guilty (stupid even) bumping my own thread, promoting my own software, but... The good people over at the KVR forum told me some folks don't like installers. Therefore you can now also download a ZIP containing the DLL, so you can manually extract it to your VST folder.

I was about to bump it for you... :-)

I first had a chance to try it out today and - as I already mentined over @KVR - it's really and truly a great instrument.

Everyone who's into keys needs to try this!

This looks cool. I just listened to the demo and downloaded it and will try it through my Leslie speaker (a real hardware Leslie).

While a real Leslie is super-cool it's a bit of a sin nonetheless... this ain't a Hammond emulation after all...

it wants to go through an overdriven amp instead.

Those old Vox and Farfisa organs sound *great* with a Leslie!! Definitely looking to try this out (with a Leslie sim).

lol True about not being a Hammond but all these keyboards sound great through a Leslie.... and with a little tube overdrive as well as the Leslie..... *smiles*

Rhodes piano and guitar also sounds great through the Leslie.

In the track in my studio tour video I used the Leslie on the overdriven rhythm guitar in the choruses and, of course, on the Hammond.

Rats!!!
We have a pair of Dumbo-Ear Rats, brothers. One is named Dexter (full gray), the other Grimalkin Von Sharfrichter, Grim for short (yes, very bad play on words; he is white with a black hood... lol..).

Will be grabbing this later today! Have B4 II, but have been looking for a nice Vox/Farfisa-ish one... sweet!!!

I have 4 dumbo-eared rats, 2 pairs of brothers, called Uisce & Ulixes and Kraken & Kilkenny. Give my scratches to Dexter & Grim.

Yeah, I'm slowly progressing towards version 1.0.0. I know you've tested ComboV 0.0.2 in Pro Tools through FXpansion VST to RTAS Adapter (thanks!). Have you already tried 0.0.5 in Pro Tools? I would like to know if it works, so I can add Pro Tools to the list of tested hosts.

It works pretty rock solid in Pro Tools without issue:

Any chance you can add a function call to do mono? I have to manually select this in the VST to RTAS wrapper:

Pro Tools also has mono tracks. Not everything needs to be in stereo. If you need anymore tests or benchmarks run, let me know.

Hope that helps.

Shane

Actually ComboV is mono, but it fakes stereo to the host because this seems to be the most compatible option. (TBH, I still don't get how the channel/pin stuff works in different hosts.)

I've just found the bug that caused the incompatibility with some hosts, so I could make ComboV fully mono again. I think I personally would prefer it that way because a) the orginal Connie is mono, and b) it would save a tiny bit of CPU time.

I have just updated Combo Model V to version 1.0.0 RC:

+ Restored 2-2/3' rank to high B and removed 1-3/5' from high C
+ Minor PDF documentation improvements

If all goes well, the next release will be the "official" version 1.0.0.

I'm not sure. I don't have access to a Mac at this moment, but since there seems a demand for a Mac version (you're not the 1st to ask), I am considering buying a Mac.

Tale - Thanks. I missed this plugin when you first posted a few months ago. Very nicely done. It brings back fond memories of the British Invasion and my early garage band period.
