In case you're using the same audio FX chain for multiple Tracks: what about putting the Audio FX after the VST on Track A ?
Track B: MIDI Data > MIDI FX -->
Track A: VST > AUDIO FX --> Track X or MASTER
If you're planning on using different Audio FX chains per Track, I'd say doing the straightforward approach with using separate Tracks for Audio FX and MIDI FX is the way to go. If necessary, you can minimize the Tracks which take up too much space. Or hide them from the TCP/MCP (via View > Track Manager).
Not sure if what you want to do is possible. But maybe using different Plugin Pin Connectors might be an option?:
