Default VST plug-ins keep becoming unavailable on project restart

I've just started in Reaper...

I've got a few plugins, some are 32 bit so put them in two folders :

C:\Program Files (x86)\VstPlugins
and
C:\Program Files\VstPlugins

(I'm not sure if it's necessary to split them up...)

But anyway, I add them to file path and apply in preferences > plug-ins > vst

And everything works fine.

Then when I load reaper the next day I get:

WARNING - The following VST2 plug-ins were not available, but matching VST3 versions were found. This is a one-way migration, if you save this project it will require the VST3 versions going forward:
Track 12: VSTi: LABS (Spitfire Audio)

The following effects were in the project file and are not available. REAPER will keep their configurations, but things may not sound as desired.
Track 2: VSTi: MT-PowerDrumKit (MANDA AUDIO) (16 out)
Track 4: VST: POD Farm Reverbs (x86) (Line 6, Inc.)
Track 9: VST: OrilRiver (Denis Tihanov)
Track 10: VST: POD Farm Tuner (Line 6, Inc.)

And in the plug-in preferences it shows folders:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins

C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins

C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3

The top two folders don't exist on my machine.

This seems to happen every time I exit and restart.

1. Should I put all 32bit and 64bit plug-ins in one place?
2. How do I get Reaper to use my desired folder without reverting back to original settings?

Thanks

If you're editiong plugin paths but Reaper isn't saving them on exit it suggests either some kind of write permissions issue or Reaper crashing during exit before saving config.

Try running Reaper, set paths, close immediately, then re-open and check if paths got changed or not. If they did try again but run Reaper as admin.

Thanks, I followed your advice and it seems to be working actually.

I did have a few crashes which may have caused my problems. It seems the UX2 doesn't like to be unplugged when reaper is open, gives me the BSOD.

I put all my plug-ins in one folder which seems to be working, so I guess that's ok.
