I use multi track setups for both SD and SSD, and then write the MIDI on a separate track, and send the MIDI to both samplers.
I do similar but a little less convoluted:
SSD and EZD/DFH are inserted on the same track; DFH first then SSD. The snare, toms, and kick are disabled in DFH leaving only hats and OH's. SSD has 2 snares (blended), 2 kicks (blended), and toms loaded. All individual drums are routed to separate tracks including room tracks.
Doing it this way you don't hafta route midi to 2 tracks. Just insert the midi file on the same track as DFH/SSD. OH's get EQ and mild compression. The SSD drums go untreated as they sound pretty stellar to begin with.
Everything is foldered with density or sometimes ReaComp on the buss.
I'd happily upload the template if anyones interested.

Thanks for the tips on the drums Pattonfreak1, I couldn't get my drum mapping to match in SSD/EZ Drummer, but doing the way you suggest, it works great!!! I can use my old MIDI files from old songs/projects & don't have to go through the re-mapping agony!!! Thanks for the tip, works like a charm!!! Listening to the song through the home stereo as I type, sounds amazing, pro stuff for sure....Great job!!!

Thanks! Glad you like.

As far as tones, the setup was posted earlier, but, I use Line-6 Gearbox and usually use the Spinal Puppet amp preset (tweeked a bit to taste) with the Tube screamer but in this tune I recorded all the guitars totally dry and Chris ran them thru the X30 amp sim.

One thing that I find works well is applying some light tape saturation effects to the guitar tracks - the amp sims don't saturate exactly like an actual amp, so that adds a littlebit more realism to the final product.

Thanks for all the comments dudes!

Well bless me if that is not just the best gosh-darn one yet you chaps!

Sorry so late to come in but I've been away and then proofing nick's SWS bible: http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.p...690#post494690 - (wait till you see it you will freak out!)

You are really pulling together that amazing trick of keeping it very heavy and very 'ard while also transcending the genre, so that there is musical and thematic interest and excitement on top of the heaviness.

And there is nothing to choose between you - clearly each of you are bringing the full 100% of creativity to the thing. Having said that, this is PF's best vocal yet by a long way for me and I thought the others were far-frickin-out.

Wonderful. I'm sorry to bang on like this but your stuff just brings out the pompous in me!

Sneak preview == sweetness. Sounds awesome. Can't wait.

Every tune you guys do sounds really different from the last. This is no exception.

Thanks for the tease!

That's due to the diverse background among all three of us:
Scott brings the bluesy/rock vibe.
Chris brings the brootalz \m/.
I bring the noise

Hey guys,

Can't honestly say this genre is my cup of tea. But, I can honestly say that you sound great, and I can appreciate the talent and effort that went into this production. Actually kinda catchy, really. Never know. You guys might convert me some day! Keep up the good work.

Oh sure there are plenty:
Variety of Sound's FerricTDS and/or Tesla Pro
JB's Ferox
Acrobatics Rombo
Antress' Modern Analoguer
DigitalFishPhones' THD
Elogoxa's Baxxpander
Tin Brooke Tales' Tls Saturated Driver
Togu Audio Line's TAL-TUBE

Not to mention JS_BadBussMojo and JS_Sturation which are included with REAPER.

Of the above mentioned I'd say Ferric, Modern Analouger, and Tls Saturated Driver are prolly the best.

No prob mate.
I'm kind of a connoisseur of free vst/vsti's. Variety of Sound, Signaltonoize, and Antress are about the best in free vst's. However, for compressor/eq/limiter/dynamic needs, 99% of the time I wind up going with a plug that's included with REAPER.

Sorry about being a bit late in commenting. I've been listening to it on and off for a while.

It's not the type of music I'm usually into, but your style has something extra about it that I really like and this track has really grown on me.

I especially like the guitar work, but that's what I tend to focus on.
