Default Problem with "M-Audio Keystation 49e"

Hello,

I've recently made the move from Cubase SX3 to Reaper 2.015 and have been having some issues getting my midi keyboard running. This keyboard use's windows drivers and has run flawlessly in Cubase SX3... however i can't seem to change the Options>Preferences>Audio>MIDI Devices settings:

Inputs:

Delta AP MIDI Enabled
USB Audio Device <disabled>

Outputs:

Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth Enabled
Delta AP MIDI <disabled>
USB Audio Device Enabled

Im not sure if i need to make changes to Options>Preferences>Audio>Control Surfaces or what?? if i try to enable the two that are disabled i get the following error:

MIDI error

The following MIDI inputs could not be opened:
USB Audio Device
The following MIDI outputs could not be opened:
Delta AP MIDI

I am running Windows XP SP2 btw..

Any help on this would be greatly apprecieted

Some ideas...

Remove all the entries in Control Surfaces.

Use the latest M-Audio drivers.

Try enabling the USB input device.

Ok removing all entrys in the "control surfaces" seems to work.. now i can enable all of the setting in input/output.. however before i grab the latest drivers.. are there any other steps i should try to route the keyboard sends to a VST... its quite possible i might not connecting the MIDI keyboard to the software properly.. unless its automatic in which case it could be a driver issue! Thanks

Just to be sure...

Youve selected the keyboard as the midi input for the track, record armed the track and enabled monitoring?

When you hit a key, does a little light show up in the tracks VU meter?

If you insert an empty midi item on the track with the VSTi(from the insert menu on the toolbar), does it trigger the VSTi?

OK not sure how to select the keyboard as a midi input...
to arm the record i pushed the "R" button...
and not sure what needs to be pressed to "enable monitoring"

Im sure its pretty straight forward... its just different from Cubase...

And nothing on the VU meter.. although when i open a track.. and create a midi segment i CAN load a VST and play it in the midi sequencer... but NOT from the virtual keyboard or obviously my keyboard. Thanks
