Many thanks as always for your hard work nicholas.
Hope it's not off topic, but couple of questions, as I need to renew lic this time...
1. Will my REAPER config from v4 remain after update and purchase a new lic?
2. I am mid project, will I have any major surprises between v4 and v5?

Well I'll do my best ...
1. Config should transition seamlessly,
2. Well I haven't, you shouldn't.
If you're nervous about this, make it a portable install until you're happy that all is well

Try re-booting. I had the same issue (Win10) and it worked after a reboot.

I can't help you with that, sorry, suggest you make a new post, especially as this might be an issue that affects others as well ...

Apologies, slightly off-topic, but just in case anyone with control of reaper.fm is watching:
I think the layout on the front page might be broken for some users.
Chrome (Win7, 44.0.2403.130 m), looks broken.
Firefox (Win7, 38.0.5), looks fine.
(Pretty sure I've cleared my cache etc. for Chrome, FWIW.)
Cheers.

I think Justin just fixed that, would you mind refreshing? It should only affect Chrome at certain zoom levels.

Reaper 5
Same here... less than 60 days ago, I downloaded a trial version of REAPER 4.76 or 4.78. I am so impressed with the product, the documentation and the entire philosophy of this small "rapid development" team, I immediately purchased my 5.00 license today.

print problem with new guide
Nicholas,
I'll echo the thanks for your work on the guide.
It probably reveals my age, but I want to mention that I got an error trying to print the new guide after opening it in Adobe Acr****. It occurred around page 18. I tried skipping that page but got similar errors on a couple of subsequent pages. I've printed the 4.x guides with no problem.
Also a quick question: Is the Hulu bound guide updated as new editions of the manual are done with subsequent 5 upgrades? In particular, I'm thinking whether to wait for the score editor before buying it.
Later,
Hartley

Hi Hartley, sorry I can't help you with Acr****. You could try one of the various free PDF progs instead (like Foxit), see if that works. All I can say is it seems to print OK here ... weird you should get probs at page 18 (if you're talking about the full guide), that one is intentionally blank!
And, yes, the guide will be regularly updated for 5.xx, same as in the past. Sorry I don't know how long you'll have to wait for the score editor though!

Bad Timing On My Part
Last month I shelled out $125 for Kenny Gioia REAPER videos from Groove3. I'm digging into the 111 individual lessons to really be able to improve my facility with the program. Unfortunately, a great deal of the "button-ology" has changed in REAPER 5, so I can't really follow along with Kenny and use the information in my recording. For examples, we now have track knobs instead of sliders, access to automation/envelopes is through a different path, and those screens have changed quite a bit. The concepts are basically the same, the program has a lot of new menus, screens, and controls that don't line up with the 4.0 way of doing things. I've downloaded the 5.0 manual and ordered a paper copy, but now it's a "compare the guides" drill to learn/re-learn it all. Guess I should have held off on the videos - my bad. Live and learn...

If it helps, you can go Options, Themes, REAPER 4 Default to use the old GUI, this should be the same s in the videos.

Wow!
Something I've never expected!
D/loaded R5, backup my portable version and installed port version to original folder which was backed up.
Loaded last song, was listed and in lovely default theme started to play with all my plugins working as usual.
I love portable s/ware and I always backup them if I can.
Loaded Auto Tune vst 3 and... works like a charm.
Levels could be not only green but I love that theme - so clear and easy on my olde eyes. I was using so far NotMyFault but I will switch to default now, more clear and easy.
Of course I do expect some problems - the software is never perfect but so far I love it.
looking forward to check ENHANCED Folders and grouping. It didn't work for me so far.
With vst 3 Reaper is fantastic! Nice surprise.
Thanks for great product!

Thank you so muck Nicholas!
Some seriously good graphics and throughout explanation of the new features here.
I've had problems with the pdf.-format before, but this is doable to get through

I just wanna say thanks to all who were involved with the new version, I've only been using it a couple days & it's really, really nice...
FWIW, I'm not into complicated stuff like some of you guys are, & I know I'm not using the daw to it's full potential, but it's still very, very nice guys...
Thanks!!!
