Default 5.1/64 Update Not Working

Running windows 10. After updating the to 5.1 the program fails to initialize. The main initialization window comes up and then immediately fails. I cannot access the Reaper tool bar. Any suggestions on what could be causing this? I tried a reinstall with no effect. The previous version worked fine. I am assuming that I need to change some windows setting to make this work.

You need to do a FULL COMPLETE uninstall, including trashing your existing reaper.ini file.
But before you do that, why not make a portable install (which can still be on the same machine but wont affect your existing install) and see if THAT runs OK?

If it does, it is then a lot easier to go through your original reaper.ini file and see what is different to the portable install.

I cannot locate the reaper.ini file. Is it called something else?

Nope, that's the name - it is in the Reaper AppData folder, which may be hidden.

In Reaper, click [Options] and select "Show Reaper resource path ..." That should display the folder containing it.

do a windows search for reaper.ini and that will show you where it is (eventually). a portable install keeps it within the Reaper folder.

it might be in some place kind of like:

C:\users\YourUserName\Application Data\REAPER\

Edit your {control panel/folder options} to show all files and folders.

Sorry - I should have said " do a search for your reaper.ini file"
Just assumed you would do that.

And the portable install is a checkbox option when you download and install a new Reaper.
Just in case you didnt notice the checkbox
