Here's how it works - Open the autocolor dialog from the View menu (SWS Autocolor). Add "rules" by clicking on the Add button. Double click (name) and type in a piece of a track name, like "gtr". Then press the square of color next to the Remove button to choose your desired color. Then press "Apply" and any tracks with gtr in their name are colored. If you want this to happen automatically, check the Enable box. (Then anytime you change a track name or add a track, it applies for you.)
There are also special types of names/filters and colors, right click in the list to access them. For example, you can have unnamed (eg new) tracks automatically colored randomly.
Many possibilities here, let me know what you think! I'll release it into the main download once I'm sure there aren't any nasty bugs.

This is REALLY great. I'm an organizational nut and this solution is so simple, yet elegant. Great job.

BTW: the beta's working flawlessly here

Hi Jeffos,
I cant get the track levels and pans to work when creating a pre fx or pre fader (post fx) cuebuss?
I'm on windows 7 64bit but running reaper 32bit if that helps.
It's such an awesome idea though and the item pasting.
Is it me being stupid or wouldn't it be great to have copy and paste fx for tracks as well as items? couldn't work out how to do this for multiple tracks?

Yeah I know the GUI is clunky there but to make it easily portable to OSX I couldn't put the color inside the list. I'd love to do that, but I didn't think it was worth the effort that it would take.

For now just in reaper.ini ([SWS] section) but I'll probably add some sort of Import/Export in the future.

I think that's another one of those "not worth the effort", but maybe someday?
The gradient idea is a good one, I'll have to think about that.

Jeffos/Tim, these actions are not working at all here:
Set FX n online for selected track(s)
Set FX n offline for selected track(s)
Set last FX offline for selected track(s)
Set last FX online for selected track(s)
Show FX chain (FX n) for selected track(s) (I suppose this should show you the proper FX, right?)
Bypass FX n for selected track(s)
Unbypass FX n for selected track(s)
Bypass last FX bypass for selected track(s) (btw, is the name of this action ok?)
Unbypass last FX for selected track(s)
Unbypass all FXs for selected track(s)
Toggle FX n bypass for selected track(s)
Toggle FX n online/offline for selected track(s)
Toggle all FX's (except n) bypass for selected track(s)
Toggle all FX's (except n) online/offline for selected track(s)
Toggle last FX bypass for selected track(s)
Toggle last FX online/offline for selected track(s)

Nice one gentlemen. I look forward to waking up tomorrow morning and trying this cool stuff out.
Question. How hard is drag and dropping of fx entries from the fx chain window, the fx buttons and insert slots of the mixer in to the slots of the new FX Chain Load/Pasting thing ? The way you've set it up is perfectly workable, though a little slower to set up than I'd anticipated. I'm not complaining, but only curious how much more work this would be.
This is so cool. All of it.

Great update, thanks a lot, sirs
Haven't tried all the fx chain stuff yet, auto color works very smooth.
Jeffos, I was excited to see this:
- Split MIDI or Audio at prior zero crossing
you built this one especially for me ?
Alas, I don't get it to work on MIDI items yet. They just won't split. Could it be there is a preference setting fighting against it? Right now it behaves just like the ordinary 'split at zero crossing' for me (ignores MIDI item).
Could someone reading this check it out and confirm/set me straight?
Thanks for all your good hard work.

hey all!! sorry I'm in a coomplete rush.. thanks for the feedback, I'll come back later..
for all of you reporting bugs, yeah.. I'm a bit embarassed: I managed to put one of the stupiest bug I ever did just before comitting (and just after finishing the tests..). This bug impacts many S&M actions.
=> Sorry! I just took the time to fix it this morning, everything should be ok in the next build
[edit] hey, gofer! yep for you (and me, and others ) I enjoyed your idea ! But yes, this action sucks right now (impacted by the same stupid bug..)

Aah, that's kinda relieving, I was just about to toggle every remotely related pref .

Hi jeffos,
Since there's talk of you doing the same thing for track fx chains as you've amazingly managed to do for item fx chains, do you think it would be possible to get it so if you copy and item fx chain you can paste it into a track (and vice versa) without having to store it in a "slot"?
.
It would be amazing as i like using item fx for it's ability to only use cpu when passing over that item but if i then realise i need to automate it i then have to cut it and paste to a track but your actions could make this "baby bum" smooth!
Also.. Where's your paypal so we can donate to you? or do you get a cut of tim's? I think you both deserve a little something!

AUTO "TRACK ICON" IDEA! ;)
testing and will post thanks guys but here's something crazy..
I thought auto colouring was very cool.
"auto track icons" would be just as insanely cool!
perhaps all you have to do is choose a folder and then it uses that as the relative path
And then as well as colour you can select an icon too, you wouldn't need to show the graphic just maybe the name or path. Nothing fancy.
This could be added on as an additional column to auto item colouring
too insane?

Thanks a lot for these updates!
I was wondering if it is possible to add the same functionality of adding/changing the names for the show/hide tracks?
Or even fuse the coloring with the hide/show?
Last time I checked, it was implemented with a text file.

[EDIT] do people want those pan/vol been re-copied whatever is the mode ?

Amazing Jeffos!!! thanks!
Had some weird things happen with cuebis creation on complicated routing/foldered tracks where some would be sent multiple times and others not at all BUT can't get it to happen on newly created projects.. Will look into it more to find the cause

I forgot! Thanks to everybody for the kind words!
@mbn: I'm quiet confident about that since REAPER v3.22 but if you got an issue please can you rather use the SWS tracker: http://code.google.com/p/sws-extension/issues/list, you can attach some stuff there to ease the repro too. As said Tim earlier, it's hard to follow everything here..

Jeffos & Tim - thanks again for the paste fx stuff and 'synesthesia' features -
is there any chance of having more than 8 slots for the paste fx? please!
i'm envisaging all kinds of fun for 'spot/repeat fx' situations and doing my mastering in reaper ( and not soundforge) , as i like to do that sort of destructively in a cumulative process - seeing what each treatment does as well as hearing it.
e.g having a bunch of fx chains consisting of only a single fx but with different settings for example can be 'applied&glued' with just a key/button, but that would need many more slots!
it's already 'is that a canoe in my pants?' awesome as it is, but that would make it really cool.
e.g whatever you put in the S&M.ini will appear as an action, like how reaconsolecommands.txt works.

More fun in v1.6.1!
It's a new Project List dialog for those of you who love to have loads of projects open at once. See it with File->SWS Project Management->SWS Project List, or use action "SWS: Open project list"

Mummy.. My HEADS GOING TO EXPLODE!!
Just tried it, couldn't access the list from the place you suggested but could from the action key. EDIT (guess you can only get it from there for multiple projects opened from a list?
This is on win7 64 bit with 32bit reaper.
EDIT: would it be possible to somehow get it to show up in the "plus" sign menu you get to the left of the tabs? that would we cool
I like how you can dock it but when you change project whilst it's docked the docker for that song may not show you the project list and you have to click on it's tab again to re show it. Not a biggy though!
you guys are crazy!

SWS, Thanks! The Project List is fantastic!
I am very grateful for implementation. That's what we were looking for. It would be interesting that the user could select each Project Tab via midi, preferably, Program Change (PC), or MSB / LSB / PC, or another command midi.
Now, thank you for your contribution, it is fantastic!

Possible bug with the auto color feature.
First off I must say that this is an excellent feature, it's something that never crossed my mind but can see this being a feature that will really come in handy. Thanks.
The bug that I see is if you have auto color enabled (e.g. A folder with tracks inside of it set to gradient) and you add another track by double clicking in the mixer area then the new track is automatically colored with whatever you have the folder/children tracks set to instead of being uncolored. If you add a new track in the arrange view then everything operates as expected.

These actions are all really useful! One thing that is missing IMO is the ability to save and recall the bypass/offline/online states of FX for macros to render specific FX in a chain where there may be one or two bypassed/offlined already.

all FX properties (including offline/bypass states) are saved in .RfxChain files, so, if I understood correctly, you can already do it. Also, at track level, you can do it with sws snapshots too.

Hello all,
can somebody please tell me where to find the documentation for the Xenakios extensions that are now part of the SWS Extensions?
I have been to the Xenakios, SWS and Googlecode websites, and all three of them tell me to go to another of the three to find what I am looking for!
Kind of frustrating, although I am of course aware that some members of this esteemed fellowship believe that the Reaper universe is some kind of videogame where instead of hunting for magic potions and ammunition, you quest for the hidden feature and lost documentation...

Cheers for the reply.
I think we might be getting our wires crossed, I have copied out a macro I am doing to render the first item (synth) as a new take. Say I have recorded a piece of MIDI, have EQ'd the synth a bit, compressed it, added a phaser and then bypassed the phaser cause I'm not sure about it. I then run this macro to render the synth, but not the FX. The FX (not-synth obviously) need to be bypassed but then recalled, remembering their original states.....
SWS: Save current track selection
SWS: Select only track(s) with selected item(s)
* SWS/S&M: Bypass all FXs for selected track(s)
SWS/S&M: Unbypass FX1 for selected track(s)
Item: Apply track FX to items
* SWS/S&M: Unbypass all FXs for selected track(s)
SWS/S&M: Set FX 1 offline for selelected track(s)
Take: Switch items to previous take
** SWS/S&M: Cut FX from selected item
Take: Switch items to next take
SWS: Restore track selection
* The first issue is that these actions don't recall the phaser being bypassed.
** The second issue is that there isn't an action to offline (or bypass) FX for selected item(s), only cut.
I'd be grateful for any assistance regarding alternative actions to accomplish this.

Ah yes, sorry about that, some meager documentation used to be on Xenakios's site but it's not there anymore.
There's not much documentation to be had for that stuff, unfortunately. I'll add it near the top of my TODO list!

Hi all, Thank you for these new actions!
I'd like to ask how can I set the load/paste fx chain action to use on track that already have fx or instrument without overwriting them? Because when I apply these actions on track it overwrite loaded fx's
Thanks

Hi SWS,
Thank you for your generous contribution to the Reaper community. I truly admire and appreciate your work here.
I would like to humble ask if it's difficult to create an action "Cycle through FX of selected track" ? One button, and you can go through all the fx's that are on the selected track. No mouse, don't have to open mixer to select fx, simplicity. This would be used so much amongst the people here. Thank you very much for even listening to my suggestion. Cheers and you have a great day .
