Default Compound Time Signatures?

I know this comes up all the time, but I'm having trouble parsing the other threads. I simply want to know- is it possible to work in compound time in Reaper ie:

-Create new project with 6/8 time signature
-Have dotted quarter = 1 beat
-Have each beat subdivide into 3 8th notes

I don't know what other DAWs do, but historically, Reaper doesn't seem to acknowledge the reality of compound time. A byproduct of this is the "Move cursor left/right to grid division" gives undesired results, jumping to points in the bar unrelated to actual 6/8 time.

As it is now, Reaper always takes one beat = one quarter note, regardless of timesig. AFAIK there's no way to change this.

Thanks for the reply. It must require some unattainable coding wizardry, because people have been requesting this for over 10 years.

It's crazy, because this places real limits on one's ability to work when the project is not in simple time.

Easily my greatest disappointment with Reaper.
