Default How to control input monitoring from other tracks?

How does input monitoring work, when receiving from other tracks?

Routing:
design tracks -> bus track -> print track (send to master)
(to be clear only the print track going to master)

I only want to monitor (hear) the output when I record arm the print track.
If it's not armed, I want to hear nothing.

How do I do this?

I've tried several settings on print track:
Monitor Input is unchecked
Record Monitoring off
"Send to Master" unchecked and instead use Hardware Outs 1 & 2
(also tried just using "Send to Master")

but the print track still sends signal to master.

THANKS!

Input monitoring only affects actual inputs. Receives are not inputs, and in fact to record the receives, you’d have to record the output of the receiving track. I don’t think there’s a good way to do what you’re asking for except maybe a custom action which toggles record arm and mute at the same time.

Ah Thanks. That's what I thought.
And I'm grateful Reaper is flexible enough to let me do a custom action for this.

The input monitor records the send volume level of the receiving track if it’s a receive of the input monitor track. The send levels can be changed in the preferences. But for what you’re trying to do I recommend setting up a cycle action. If the next action is on Toggle record arm for selected track, Cycle input monitor, end of conditional statement, if the the next action is off cycle input monitor, cycle input monitor, end of conditional statement (turn it on if it’s off) You would put that in the cycle action editor. After you set this up just assign it to a continuous controller number.
