Default inserting Kontakt midi patterns?

I'm messing with Shimmer Shake Strike (a Kontakt percussion library), and can't figure out how to get the midi patterns onto a track in REAPER.

I'm used to EZ Drummer, Addictive etc. where drag and drop is possible.

I can obviously listen along with the track, but how do I insert patterns? I'm guessing they trigger with a midi keyboard. Arming a track seems to record a WAV file.

Aren't you lucky that the person who scripted SSS is right here?

Well, the design of SSS is different than other libraries, so we opted not to offer MIDI drag&drop, because editing them would be less than obvious, since nearly every hit is preceeded by a preroll sample of certain duration, and so on - not only would the MIDI itself look weird, but editing it would in a lot of cases mess things up considerably. So, you can only edit patterns via the GUI and play them back via keys. That's all there's to it.

If I hit record in REAPER, it records a WAV on the track SSS is on.

So if I have my midi keys plugged in, it will insert the midi data to trigger each pattern on my track? SSS does sound sick - I need to find out how to use it. Like back in the day when uTonic came out, I had a mess of a time getting those patterns going.

Been years really since I did much with midi. lol

That's because you probably have the track set to record audio output of it, instead of recording MIDI input...

There's a manual that comes with SSS, might wanna read it

The manual says to do that. I just don't know how to do that LMFAO. I read it first thing. Doesn't really get into it on the video lessons, either.

I figured it out. Inserted a MIDI clip, then drew in the corresponding keys for each pattern.

"RTFM" answer posters all get a pat on the back today.
