REAPER 2.0 BETA 13 - UPDATED SEP 26!
Note: you may now discuss this wherever you like.
Here is the beta of REAPER 2.0. This beta has a ton of new stuff, the highlights of which are listed below. For a full list view the changelog in the about box.
- New default them by WhiteTie, old theme is available as "Classic"
- Extensions to advanced themeing - http://reaper.fm/advtheme/ has info.
- Drawing improvements (fixed occasional display issues on track panels etc)
- More colorthemeable things (MIDI editor, docker, can be set independently, more fonts themeable)
- Mixer: Optional FX/send views on the track.
- Screensets: focus tracking, more mixer state saved in screensets, other bugfixes
- Automation: new option to allow easy adding of tons of new automation (prefs/editing/"Automatically add/arm envelopes when tweaking parameters in write modes")
- Editing: a bunch of editing fixes, improvements to automation moving with items
- Multichannel master track (primarily for doing advanced sidechains etc on the master)
- FX: renaming of effect instances, comment window improvements
- JS: new functionality including PDC, as well as position reporting to effects
The REAPER 2.x series will get a lot of additions over the next year or so, but this is getting it off to a good start.
Registered REAPER 1.x users get a free upgrade to 2.x, and until we launch 2.0 on the main web site, you can still buy 1.x licenses for the current price (as there will be a price increase for REAPER 2.x). So, if you want to get a license at the current prices, you have approximately til the 18th or so of september)..
Finally, since you read all of this, here is the link: http://reaper.fm/files/2.x/reaper20beta13-install.exe
Post your comments on this thread.
-Justin + Christophe
Edit: now updated to v2.0beta13!! The MIDI overhaul continues...
Here's a screenshot of the new skin, with the FX insert mixer view open:

woo hoo!
this is an amazing update Justin/Christophe, thank you! Over the course of 2 weeks you made a major step in reaper --
as well as add a bunch of cool features, this should address many concerns, and i suggest everyone look at the changelog.txt -- the details are even more interesting! And the drag and droppable sends/fx on top of the MCP work amazingly!
hmm. it seems like the new advanced themeing or about screen is a bit too cpu intensive for my 512 MB/600mhz celeron dinosaur. It may be a drawback for ppl with slower systems, but on my laptop (althon 2100) it opens just like older ones.

Justin Nice work !! I like the fx in the mixer view etc. However a main thing that for ME that got overlooked was the AUTOMATION ??? , The same problems exist IMO
1. no grouping
2. no mutes
3. same style with env.
4. individual ch's must be set to ON ? for automation to tak place NO grouping that I can tell ?? If I'm wrong please tell me !!!
Anyhow just my $0.02
I do like the look and there are features I have'nt looked into yet that I will look into
Later

Hey mbuzzz, there was ONE automation feature added:
+ automation: added option prefs/editing/"Automatically add/arm envelopes when tweaking parameters in write modes"
There's a few of us that want sends mute automation, so hang in there.

I've been lurking around here a bit lately, and playing with the shareware version. I'm definately buying now!!
I'll probably sell my Cubase in a while if all goes as planned.
Good stuff

Now this is The Bomb.
Beautiful...and nice choice in the default GUI. I love that it is not some mock hardware look.
Thanks for adding the fx to each channel in such an elegant way.

If I install this to a new path, will the Version 1.xxx still work along side V2.0beta0
or
If I use the existing V1.xxx path, can it be rolled back without loss of settings?
Thank you
Don

I'll think of something witty to say long after I stop laughing!
What a pleasant surprise Justin.
Wow! if nothing else. Got to comment on the default gui. Utterly clean and attractive both.

And how's that working for you then? ....
The beta looks great Justin. Love the new default theme. The new Mixer view with visible FX chain is a huge (HUGE!) improvement, IMO. Great stuff!
BTW, "Cockos Nibbles" needs a chip-tune to go with it.
Cheers,
Malcolm.

All looks really excellent - the mixer has definitely come of age! Can't wait to try...
Before I get stuck in a quick question.. what is backward compatible and what is not for RPP files made in this version? (Obvious not just relevant for beta but 2.0 itself)
I'll definitely want the comfort of knowing whether I can drop back - and what happens if I can't.. and thought it best to check for a definitive answer rather than winging it!
Should I back up my INI (inc kb settings)?
Many thanks Justin!!

"Sounds good", said Art with his typical English understatement. "Well goodness gracious me!" he exclaimed, as he read further. "Strewth, and starve the lizards!!" he finally uttered, reverting to the language of his adopted country, having read to the end of the announcement.
Nice work!

Global Automation Write
I like the global option to write envelopes for anything touched. Can you in 2.x bring that out to the main window. A global "R" button for that away from the preference screen?
Very cool. Thanks to all.

Hey Justin absolutely wonderful ! Wooooo Hooooo !
I look, I see, I grab, I drag, I have it next door.
Stunning good work and away we go for some Automation bliss in 2.0. Lets get the mutes cooking, the sends faders moving and following the envelopes in real time, and some proper mix grouping in the next swoop of 2.1 and then we are up to speed a bit with the big boys.
In for the long haul with you bro.

This is a nice addition. I also like the transport buttons.(not pictured here) Just as good if not better than the Cornish style which I have adopted as my fave. I must say, a minimize function for the docker is getting to be more necessary with so much more real estate being developed. Alt+D for now.

I know this has probably been asked already but this thread is already ridiculously huge and I can't read it all day.
How do you get the mixer view to show both inserts AND sends/receives as in the pic above
P.S. This thread should be closed and stickied IMHO - it is too big and too time consuming to extract information out of.
