Default Item/Midi Editor: How to make the selected notes dark instead of the selected light?

Hello! I need help!

1. How in the midi event coloring mode view/color notes/by "Track" or "Media Item" make the selected notes dark (or black) instead of the selected light?

2. How in the midi event coloring mode view/color notes/by "Track" or "Media Item" make the unselected notes to be the color of the "Track"/"Media Item" instead of the dark color?

That is, the "inversion" of what is there by default.

I can found coloring for muted notes, but can't find for ordinary notes.

Those colors are defined by the midi_note_colormap.png image.
MIDI Color Map Explanation

There are some colormap images in the stash, or you can make your own. They can be loaded in MIDI editor menu, File/Note colors, Load colormap from file...

Thank you, but "midi_note_colormap.png" working only for view/color notes/by "Velocity", "Channel", "Pitch", "Source", "Voice".

But not working for "Track" or "Media Item".

Sorry, I was speaking besides the point. Ok, those colors are the same as they are for the given tracks and media items. IOW, you cannot change them just for the notes in MIDI editor.

I'm not asking about color changes in "Track" or "Media Item".

I'm asking how to make (configure) selected notes dark or black instead of light?

Only the selected notes are colored in the color of the "Media Item". Unselected - dark (not color of the "Media Item").

I need: unselected notes to be the color of the "Media Item"; selected ones are dark or black.

or how about making any selected notes the same "selected" color? I don't want my notes to just be a different shade of the same color. it's bad visibility compared to a single bright, distinct, consistent "selected" color that is track-independent

The color by track / media item functionality is newer than midi_note_colormap. It doesn't use it. Ah! you're thinking, then it probably calculates the difference between the MIDI editor note selected and unselected definitions, right? Nope.

Reaper appears to lighten the note colour and give it a white outline. IIRC, its just one of those many, many things in Reaper that are not themable.

a shame, because it's an extremely useful coloring mode. coloring midi by track allows us to use colors that correspond with LEDs on our hardware. i use this with a launchpad pro to act as a visual sequencer - bassline plays back in white, strings in blue, etc.

@WT I noticed that when using the option to color the notes by item/track, the notes of the active take in the ME look very different. They have some kind of color gradient on them. This is not a bad thing at all. I was just
wondering if this look is on purpose or maybe a setting I have enabled by accident?
I can provide a picture, if needed.

To answer my own question: yes the gradient on the notes is a normal side effect when using “color notes by tracks or items”.
