Default LCS_Mahina

NOTICE: This version of the theme is no longer supported.
Please try the new version: LCS_Mahina_SE

-----------------------------------------------------
LCS_Mahina
Available now on Stash

This is a mod based on LCS_Gold that is itself based on Albert's screenshot of his proposed Solaris SSL theme with underpinnings from his Solaris Pro beta.
The TCP Envelope panel comes from White Tie's Imperial via the Solaris Pro theme since I like it and fits the theme.
Elements in the Transport are also taken from White Tie's Imperial theme, but the Transport was customized to fit the theme better.

INSTRUCTIONS:
unzip the file after download and put the ReaperThemZip file in your Color Themes folder.

CHANGES FROM LCS_GOLD:
-----------------------------------------
- New buttons. Button text now on buttons
- transport is thinner and new buttons
- New look and layouts for the TCP
- removed the Fullscreen layout and replaced it with Flexible Fader layout for smaller screens or resolutions
- made the Meter Bridge style meters slightly large in order to use the normal meter scale

MCP LAYOUTS:
------------
DEFAULT - similar to Default in LCS_Gold with some minor changes
SCALED - same as DEFAULT, but has fader and meter number scales
SPACER - same as DEFAULT, but has separator area attached to the right side to act as a spacer between tracks
NARROW - narrow version of the DEFAULT
BIG METER - big meter with volume knob instead of a fader. Flexible meter allows more FX to be visible as needed
TRACKING - Narrow version of the Big Meter layout. Flexible meter allows more FX to be visible as needed
VCA - Narrow layout with no meter and minimal buttons
SEPARATOR - wide or thin blank layouts for making space between tracks. Has the track label so it can also be used to signal the start of a group of tracks.
Flex Fader - Has flexible fader and meter allowing it to get very small before it turns into just a meter bridge style meter
Flex Fader Narrow- Narrow version of the Flex Fader layout
Flex SPACER - same as Flex Fader, but has separator area attached to the right side to act as a spacer between tracks
Flex VCA - Narrow VCA version of the Flex Fader layout with no meter and minimal buttons

NOTE: all MCP layouts form a meter bridge when fully compacted. see example.

MCP MASTER LAYOUTS:
------------------
DEFAULT - matches default MCP layout
SCALED - same as DEFAULT, but fader and meter number scales
BIG METER - big meter with volume knob instead of a fader
Flex Fader - Master version of the Flex Fader layout
Flex Fader WIDE - Wide version of the Master Flex Fader layout

TCP LAYOUTS:
------------------
DEFAULT - main TCP layout
KNOBS - Default layout with knobs instead of a fader
LONG NAME - matches default TCP layout, except buttons are lowered to allow for name label to keep stretching to the right.
LONG NAME - KNOBS - Long Name layout with knobs instead of a fader
BIG METER - has expandable meter and a longer name label than the default.
KNOBS BIG METER - BIG METER layout, but with knobs.
VCA - Has no meter and only minimal buttons
SEPARATOR - blank layout for making space between tracks. Has the track label so it can also be used to signal the start of a group of tracks.

TRANSPORT LAYOUTS:
------------------
DEFAULT - Default Transport layout
Alt Buttons - Default Transport layout with alternative 'lit' buttons

UPDATE: 10/17/2019
----------------------------
- fixed background discoloration issue between different layouts

UPDATE: 10/16/2019
----------------------------
- added 2 Spacer layouts based on the Default and Flex Fader layouts
NOTE: Flex Fader Spacer FX area is wider with no "spacer" area due to limits of the WALTER code

UPDATE: 10/01/2019
----------------------------
- fixed Midi transport Home and Pause On buttons
- changed click behavior for all Midi transport buttons
- fixed FX Bypass graphics issue in the Narrow layout
- remove the 'separator' lines on the sides the Envelope button.

see screenshots below:

Default/Scaled/VCA/Separator

@ woogish
Thanks!
Unfortunately, the indented folder tracks on the MCP don't appeal to me.
I can see why they might appeal to others, but having the MCP tracks be shrinkable from the top and the bottom posing visual and coding issues that I have no interest in working out at this time.
I may be willing to make an alteranative Flex layout with this feature in the future, but I have no plans to do this at the moment.

@+NRG
Thanks!
P.S.
more race cars!

Nice! Is it possible for you to make 2x size (and detail) versions of the tcp and mcp buttons? With the recent HiDPI updates for non-HiDPI themes, this is looking almost perfect. (although, I'm also seeing a thin line just to the right of the envelope button, it looks like part of a repeating black and while gradient)

Unfortunately, I don't have a 4K display, so making buttons for them is just a guessing game.

That line has a matching lighter line on the other side that meet when the two are next to each other
This was done to simulate an indent between tracks helping to define the separation between tracks.
You can try the attached alternative envelope buttons to see if they suit you better.
Unpack the attached Zip file, unpack the theme and copy the new buttons to the appropriate folders.

I was more thinking that it would be possible to create decent looking buttons at twice the size. Ideally, if you then looked at them at 50% size, you'd see basically exactly the same buttons as you have now, but on my HiDPI screen, I'd be able to see the extra detail.

As for putting them into the theme and making sure that everything lines up, I'm ok with doing that myself, I'm just not good enough with image editing to do photorealistic stuff (mostly the shadows, highlights and anything that's not a straight line).

If it were a straight doubling of pixel lines, maybe, but a lot tweaking happens in the "shadows, highlights and anything that's not a straight line" areas.
I would need to see how they look in the actual setting to understand what I need to adjust.
I easily spent and hour just doing a test with the Recmon button (headphones), but was unhappy with the results I was getting.
Just doubling the different pixel blocks looks bad @ 1920x1080.
It may look OK @ 4K or only need a minor adjustment, but I have no way to tell until I change to a 4K display.

I'm not sure if this is you not understanding what I'm saying, me not understanding what you're saying, or both... I'm just not sure what the problem is...

Maybe if you could post the Recmon button you've been working on, I'll either be able to better understand what you're saying, or point you in the right direction.

It's possible I'm not understanding what you mean, but I think what you stated is pretty clear:

It's unfortunate, but larger buttons for this theme scaled down do not look good, just as the current buttons do not look good scaled up.
Creating buttons that look good at both resolutions requires me to have both types of displays available in order to compare and find a workable compromise.
Please also take into account that in addition to making the larger buttons, the WALTER code will need to be adjusted for them to look good and in the correct locations at the higher resolution.

For these reasons I need to wait until a 4K display is available to me and make a proper 4K version of the theme at that time.

It's really late here, so this might make even less sense, but I'm saying that this part of the process I can do, I just would need the images to do it with.

And I'm curious, you mean that the images look worse than the originals (rather than just mostly the same) when scaled back down? Either way, that shouldn't be the case on a HiDPI screen.

attached below are the the test Recmon (Monitor) buttons.
They are my best guess.
The size code in walter will need to be changed to 36 (width) x 32 (height)
These are just the square style used in the TCP and the MCP NARROW layouts.

[EDIT:] Also attached below are TCP/MCP buttons for the following:
- Mute
- Solo
- FX
- Phase
- Recarm
- Mono/Stereo
they are all the same size as the new large Recmon button.

Nice Skin! It makes me want to start using Reaper again, except that I rely a lot on Spectral Cleaning in Samplitude among many other conveniences...

I love Audio and Midi Comping in Reaper, however, much better than Samp.

Great job, thanks!

Oh yeah, I tried swapping them in, but it didn't seem to make a difference. It's kind of difficult to tell if I did something wrong though... I might try adjusting one of the images to make sure it's definitely using the new ones.

Also, the vertical line next to the envelope button still looks the same, either what I'm seeing isn't intentional, or it's not doing what is was intended to do. I'll look closer at the actual image when I go in to edit one of them.

Did you change the size in the WALTER code?
The new size is:
36 (width)
32 (height)
you will probably need to adjust spacing to accommodate the new size as well.

the new envelope image posted above should not have the veritcal line.
Can you post a screenshot?

Any chance you can add the mixer strips that include a separator (on the left side)? I'm still using Solaris_LCS as my main theme, in part because it has those. It helps me with section orientation on my control surface and for that reason I can't dedicate a mixer channel for a separator as that would offset the sections on my surface one channel for each section so that won't work.

I hope I made it clear what I mean

Clear enough, you want a spacer layout because it helps your work flow.

I am willing to make spacer layouts, but the spacer will actually be on the right side of the layout.
This means the spacer layout would need to be used on the track before the track(s) being isolated.

Putting the spacer on the right requires minimal coding as opposed to the left, which would require rewriting new versions the existing layouts.
There would only be two spacers layouts, one based on the default layout and one based on the Flex Fader layout.
They will both have fader color choices

There is an unfortunate issue with the Flex fader version since it has the FX section above the layout instead of being embedded in the layout itself.
Because the FX section is not part of the layout, I have no control over it's size/width, unlike the Default layout.
see image below:

No problem at all, I'm grateful if you want to add it.

I'm using only the default fader, but indeed with different colors (mainly for busses). I used to use different layouts together but I found that my mixer layout translates best to my control surface if it is uniform.

As long as I can have a default with the VU somewhere above the fader (I have a dedicated monitor for the mixer) I'm happy

Default Theme Update: 10/16/2019 - added Spacer layouts

UPDATE: 10/16/2019
----------------------------
- added 2 Spacer layouts based on the Default and Flex Fader layouts
NOTE: Flex Fader Spacer FX area is wider with no "spacer" area due to limits of the WALTER code

update is now available on Stash

The TCP is exactly the way I want it, but you can try editing the tcp_bg.png and tcp_bgsel.png files in the image folders.
Alternatively or additionally, you can try making it lighter through the Theme Tweaker settings:

METERS:
----------------
I really like the current meters, but you can try replacing them with the green meters from LCS_Luna_Gray or LCS_Sesshin-G.
The files names are:
meter_strip_h.png
meter_strip_v.png
meter_strip_v_rms.png
copy those files into the image folder and let them overwrite the current files.
Alternatively, you can just delete those files and change the colors using the Theme Tweaker.

Wow, that was fast. Thank you so much. Switched to this theme now and it looks great and really organized. I could find everything on the mixer right away.

One little thingy; I color my channels into groups and the new separator layouts are showing a (very) little darker. This is with the default mixer strip. I can post a screenshot if needed, but it's pretty obvious.

Not a show stopper for me though, Switched to Mahina for sure
