Default Zoom R16 - Midi issue?

I'm running a Windows 10 PC, Zoom R16 as an interface and Emu X board 25 as my midi keyboard.

I've had my system set up and running reliably for the past couple of years. This week I've tried tidy up my VST locations. I haven't knopwingly changed any inpout / output settgings but I have run into a problem that baffles me. Any suggestions please?

To check the VSTs are working I've created a new project and a new track to record on.

No matter what VSTi I use I have the following issue;

I can play on my midi controller and levels show on the armed track in Reaper

I can hear the VSTi through my monitors which are connected to thew R16.

Pressing record on the R16 now does not start recordeing, though it did in the past. I've checked that Reaper is not in record time selection mode.

To check the R16 I recorded audio through it's inbuilt mics and that appears on screen as normal.

Any suggestions please?

Mike

I think I may have solved this by unistalling and re installing Reaper.

That is good.

What do you think the cause was?

And, out of curiosity, am I right in assuming that you were using the R16 as both an audio interface and control surface at the same time?
