Default sure we need better UI

I don't get it why are people against good looking UI.
The answer use your year is stupid.
Reaper claims it self for being cool coz you can redesign its look to your liking and many people do and makes their and mine workflow better/faster.

Why?
Because the clumsy sliders that all looks the same are puzzling as hell.
Compresor, Gate, Delay, you name it.. all looks the same.. if you have more than one open you hardly find what is what on first glance.

Turn the UI off for all your plugins.
And will se how your ears will help you to find the right slider quick.

We do not need Cockos to design the UI. We will.
What we need is the possibility to do so.

Or you wanna tell me that you prefer the right hand side UI over the UI on left...
Both are HELM synth only the one on right is how it will look if we follow the actual Cockos design pattern.

Good UI in program like this, any program is complete must!

Great that we finally have someone who is entitled to define what exactly "good" is, and who is able to decide that look is more important than audio features, stability, compatibility, and other uninteresting stuff

This is an example of a good UI? OMG.

Other then that I also don't understand why folks don't like good UI. Though my complaints about the built-in plugins isn't about not being shiny. I don't like them because of ...

* inconsistentent layout (eg position of meter strips, buttons, etc)
* inconsistent design (no WALTER or other Reaper theme support)

The current looks of the built-in plugins is unprofessional. It has the typical look of a UI "designed" by programmers. I must know, because I'm one (though most likely not so good as our revered Cockos heros).

This is exactly what makes me perfectly happy.

Of course I do agree that theming support would not harm.

I like look of Reaper Plugins. I THINK theyre very simple lookin which makes work with them very effective.
Actually by optional disabling graphic visualisations you more focus by ear what happening with sound.

I dont like only manually writing values for readelay sync time instead of additionaly setting this by moving knob or something like that.

It's like reaper plugs are under some weird middle eastern law that says they must never be equally as good as the good plugs, and they must be as plainly dressed as possible or be completely covered in non-descriptive garb.

I'm really tired by getting told not to be fooled by the looks just because I believe in UXD (user experience design) done right. Both if the images shows how it should NOT be done.

That ReaComp GUI design is brilliant. Love that. Capital R and C though is my only grumble. :-)

It would also be nice if there was the option to change to red, blue, yellow, orange, grey or black skins with green being the default. If all of the Reaper effects had that same design or look as your ReaComp one here I'd buzz off that and it'd get my vote.

What did you design that on may I ask?

Default Some efforts to do it

At the moment I'm not planning anything like that, because I'm working hard on the graphics for the next update.

But if you or someone else would like to implement the graphics into the js plugins, I am of course available for a collaboration.
The're some plugins that already have been tweaked and you can find them in reaper stash.

Zeno made a huge effort with LBX stripper, and some other people have done that with native JS plugins.

In stash you can find some GUI like the one i attach the 1175 compressor.

When I'm recording, mixing and editing I like to rely on colors and shapes, I don't want to read a whole line of parameter names but got directly to the point.

I like minimalism, but minimalism also means to be clear and specific and with some GUI-less plugins you cannot get that.

Yeah, it's my goto EQ now that. I also sometimes use the Reason Rack Plug-in Channel EQ just on basses but that ReEQ is top drawer.

Was LBX Stripper something that allowed you to make skins for Reaper plug-ins?

LBX stripper takes up a lot of space, it wraps in an entire panel, and then all normal access to plugins will still result in standard plugins appearing too, it may work for some, but for most people its not an option (as a plugin wrapper)
Somebody could code a VST wrapper (has been done but no longer available mgui by asseca) to regui plugins, but that is less likely than the built in plugins getting a regui, which is not going to happen anytime soon, the developers have little interest in it.

Yeah this lack of GUI in general for Reaper is a big issue for me (won't stop me using it) and needs addressing.

Adding a GUI to at least some native plug-ins especially ReaSynth (and also loads more features added to it at the same time) and ReaComp and Samplamatic for starters.

I also long for a really really decent Reaper default theme. The past default themes are not great imo and even using the Logic themes, FL Studio or Smooth themes there seem to be at least 1 part let's it down whether it be the audio clip graphics, midi editor or transport area up top. Have to have a look into Concept Six see how that fairs.

Themes are really really a decent matter of taste and that is why they are user-configurable.

I'll have to have a look at that now. From the pics shown, looks better but the arranger window doesn't look great, no offence. I'll have to try it out now.
