I can't seem to add a backing track
I have done it before. I have a new computer and had to download reaper again to the new one. Now I can't add a backing track. I click on Media file, then click on the file,, and it loads and says off line and only less then 3 seconds with no sound. What gives?

Have you checked your audio device settings (Preferences)?

What's the file format and extension of the audio file?
Might be a missing codec issue (VLC and/or additional FFMPEG libraries not installed yet): https://reaperblog.net/2020/05/howto-extensions/

Support for playback of MP4 files requires having VLC Player installed (more info in the link I posted):
- Reaper 32-bit: requires VLC Player 32-bit installed
- Reaper 64-bit: requires VLC Player 64-bit installed
Have you already done this on the new computer?

Just an FYI,, I just grabbed the file from my backing tracks on my other computer and they were all MP4's and it worked like a charm. Something has changed. Either I don't have the same download or my computer is doing something different

As others have said, you need to install "VLC Player".
Reaper uses files (Dll's...etc) for play back of Mp4 files to play.
MP4 is a video file, hence, the need for VLC Player.

You will not need to use VLC, but Reaper Does!
