Default Trigger EZdrummer 2 in Reaper with eDrums

Hello Reaper Friends,

I have managed to get EZdrummer 2 to output to separate tracks in Reaper.

I used a canned midi file to trigger it while I worked on the routing.

I then saved it as a Project Template.

Now I have my eDrums connected via USB and here's my problem:

The eDrums will trigger EZD2 with no problem when I have EZD2 open as a stand-alone app.

However, when I bring up my project that has EZD2 set up with the multiple track routing, I can't seem to get the EZD2 VST to trigger from my eDrums.

I've searched the web (including YouTube) for "trigger EZdrummer2 from eDrums in Reaper" but I'm not finding anything.

It's probably something simple but I can't figure it out.

I have gone into EZD2 setting from the FX - EZD2 VST in Reaper and set the eDrums to my kit. That's what I did for the stand-alone. It's just not triggering in Reaper.

If I tap the EZD2 drums in Reaper with my mouse they trigger.

What am I missing?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Billy G.

Maybe I should mention, I'm running the latest version of Reaper (64 bit) on a Mac running High Sierra.

I don't have an edrums... but the basics are

is the edrums enabled as your midi device in pref's?

do you get any midi signal on a track in reaper from the edrums?

given that you have the mapping already correct, which you say you do in the standalone, those would be the first places to check

then also do you have the track with EZ on it, armed and also set to monitor so that the little speaker icon is green?

What hopi said.

Also, there's a check-list in the USer Guide, section 3.40.

Talk about Ghosts In The Machine ......

Here's what's happened:

I had created the Project Template with the drums from EZD2 on separate channels using a midi file from EZD2 to trigger so I could concentrate on the routing. However when I had that project open, no mater what I did, I could not get EZD2 to trigger from my eDrums (KAT KT-4) kit - even though I had the KAT kt set up in Reaper preferences as a midi devise.

As soon as I opened a new project and created an instance of EZD2 as a VST on a track BAM! - everything in EZD2 was automatically triggering properly when playing the KAT kit.

I recorded a few bars of drums (midi) on the stereo track and then went through the process of creating a bunch of new tracks and routing the individual drum outputs from the EZD2 VST to the separate tracks.

I'm at a loss to explain why this is working now and not before. But ... it is!

Perhaps it's because the original Project Template was created with a canned midi file and not from midi input from my devise (KAT KT-4).

likely cause can be found in the canned midi file if you open it in the List Editor view and see the midi channels for notes
