Now this is a problem. SWS has only one place from where most users download it - the main page of the site. I don't know how a user can find new SWS, which is only accessible through a unpublished link.

ReaPack is hardly "unpublished", and you are doing yourself no favors by using an old, known-incompatible-with-REAPER-7 version simply because of the website status.
There is currently a technical problem with updating the website, and it lies beyond the control of those who are maintaining, improving and extending SWS. We are as frustrated as you are with this situation, believe me.
Until that's resolved, though, ReaPack is the best point of distribution we have available. Updating is highly recommended.

Can the beta version break stuff that was working or is it simply adding new beta features?

It mostly just fixes bugs and adds compatibility with REAPER v7 (supporting new features + repairing ones that broke).

Thanks, I think I will use the reapack version then, much easier to maintain with the synchronize packages option.

Just a quick wonder, do I need to uninstall SWS before I install the beta from Reapack?

As long as the current one is in <resource path>/UserPlugins, which is the case since v2.11, installing the new one using ReaPack will simply install over it.

hello,
I still don't understand
does the term deprecated mean that the same native actions now exist everywhere?
thanks

We mark SWS functionality as deprecated when an equivalent is added to REAPER itself.

SWS/S&M: Paste (replace) FX chain (depending on focus)
this action (and I think others like it), do not focus on the items.
Can anyone confirm this?

I have installed the latest REAPER version and also want to install the latest sws/s&m extension. Is it best to do this via the homepage or reapack? In reapack I see version 2.14.0.1-beta. Is this the latest version or should I rather install the official v2.12.1 #3?

Interesting... I have two portable installs on my system. On one, I installed SWS through reapack, no problem.
I just thought I'd do the same on the second one (sws already installed through installer from website link). I get a runtime error during install:

Update ReaPack (Extensions > ReaPack > Synchronize packages). This was fixed in v1.2.4.4 (2024-02-03).

Released SWS v2.14.0.2 (pre-release). It's in ReaPack or traditional installers at https://www.sws-extension.org/download/pre-release/.
@swstim gave me access to publish new stable releases on the website. Assuming no major problems are reported within the next month or so, this will be the final pre-release before v2.14 is promoted to stable.

Hello cfillion,
I would like to report an issue I've encountered after updating the SWS/S&M Extension.
I have set up a master track in Auto/Color, and I configured it so that when I add an image to a track, it also appears on the master track (I have an image with the "Mix" label on the master). However, after the latest update, this functionality stopped working.
To verify, I rolled back to version SWS/S&M v2.14.0.1, and everything worked perfectly again.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could look into this issue and fix it in a future update.
Thank you for your hard work and support!

Can you share the exact Auto Color settings and steps to duplicate from a blank project? Does it also happen with the default theme? (A screencap might yield some clues as well.)
It appears to be working here:
(I should add that color, icon and layout on the master track don't appear to be supported officially by REAPER. There is no built-in way to set any of them. Only icon take effect if another track also has one, which may or may not be a bug. I'm a bit perplexed why "(master)" was added to SWS in the first place...)

Issue with Image Display on Master Track in Latest Update

I have the same settings as yours (see attached screenshot), but when I add an image or use the "BASS" function on a track (where I’ve set an image for this name), the image appears on the track but not on the master track. This issue occurs even with the default theme and other themes. When I roll back to the previous version (v2.14.0.1), everything works fine.
Could you please help with this issue or let me know when a fix might be available?
For now, I will stay on version v2.14.0.1, as it works fine.
I wanted to add that when I go to Auto/Color and click "Force" the image does appear on the master track. However, this is not a practical solution for every project.
Thank you.

Ah, got it. The issue is that master track icons are not stored in the project file (likely because they're not supposed to exist). v2.14.0.2 changed auto-color timings to avoid duplicating work, which made it stop re-applying the icon every time the project is opened.
Fixed here: https://github.com/reaper-oss/sws/pull/1889. Test builds will be posted on that page in about an hour.

Issues with Automatic Updates after ReaPack Synchronization

Dear cfillion,
I updated ReaPack and tried to synchronize the packages, but unfortunately, the issue remains. Everything still works the same as before the update. I didn’t fully understand what needed to be done with GitHub, although I tried to follow the instructions. I downloaded and replaced the sws.dll file, and everything worked perfectly when I launched REAPER for the first time. However, after I synchronized the packages through ReaPack: Synchronize packages, the problem returned.
I prefer to have everything set up for automatic updates, and all my scripts are configured for automatic updating. But right now, I have to manually replace the files after synchronizing the packages, which is not very convenient. I would prefer if everything updated automatically.
Am I correct in understanding that the fix will not be added to ReaPack yet, so that everything works without manual file replacement through Synchronize packages? Or am I doing something wrong? I would greatly appreciate your help and advice.
Thank you in advance for your response.

Yeah, I'm not doing a whole release on ReaPack just for testing one thing. Update to 2.14.0.2 with ReaPack, then replace with the test build from GitHub. Further synchronizations won't remove the test build until the next update comes out.
Assuming the fix works correctly for you, it'll be included in the future SWS 2.14.0.3.

I apologize for the inconvenience. I would like to clarify if the reaper_sws-x64.dll file needs to be replaced.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Can a toolbar cycle action change its own icon or icon text?
With toolbar cycle actions, is it possible to have the action change its button text or graphic icon depending on its state — other than the usual highlight that shows an on or off state?
E.g., I have a button that toggles between
Active MIDI item follows media item selection
--- Step ---
Active MIDI item follows track selection
I'd like the icon to indicate which of those it is, with either text or a graphic.
Is that possible?
I see under Statements there's a LABEL option, which seems promising as a way of altering button text. But I thought I'd ask before getting any deeper.
I have an SWS guide by Nicholas from 2010, before cycle actions existed.
Thank you!

The LABEL statement is meant to allow running SWS/IX: Label processor commands from cycle actions (also accessible from the SWS/S&M extension menu)

Hi!
Do you know if it is possible to indicate the quantity of seconds by default when I open "random Item Positions"?
Thx!

Hi !
Sorry if it's been asked before (didn't find anything after running a simple earch) :
Is there a place where we can make feature requests for SWS (especially snapshots) ?
On the Reaper "feature requests" subforum maybe ? :

Updated Cycle Action tutorial/documentation
Cyclic actions are super useful, but not entirely intuitive, is there updated documentation? Last I found was from 10ish years ago and doesn't really cover things like loops very well.
Loops in particularly would be useful to take actions across multiple tracks for instance. Though now I realize am starting to get into more "scripty" stuff.
