Save audio files to...?
This may sound like a silly question, but I should still have a dedicated HD for my audio and Reaper sessions right?
Just asking because for some reason, when I try to save my sessions, they default to my application drive and folder.

options\preferences\general (top of the list on the left) render path
options\preferences\recoding (recording path)
options\preferences\media (peaks)
alt+enter audio settings tab (per project)

Yikes, could you elaborate just a little bit?
Not sure what the difference is between recording path and render path.
For example,
Say I have a project titled, "Bye bye PT" and I have a folder for that in my Audio Drive G:... would I set my render path to that folder? Or the drive? And same question regarding the recording path.
Lastly, what do you mean by peaks?
Thanks for your trouble!

I just posted this in the features request section. Nice to see I am not the only one. I have 3 drives for my Windows 7 setup...OS, Applications, Data.
I will go check these out, but the Project Settings under file sure didn't seem to fix my problem. That just puts all the media files in one folder without regards to what project.

You can use "save as" and select move all media to project folder. Personally I wish it would default to the project folder but it doesn't. I use a temp folder on my project files drive and using the save as function it moves everything where it needs to be.

yes, you should still use a dedicated drive. reaper's not nearly as picky as some about it though (i've done many long event recordings to they system drive without issue using reaper).
I'm not sure why it does that (i get a lot of system32 folder saves with some programs), so when i first start the project, i do some initial setup, and then use save as... and put it where i want it.
the paths folders people had mentioned in preferences are something different, mostly applying to projects that haven't been saved, if memory serves. the default render path is for bounces and the like...for exported files, basically.
when you set up your project, you can create an audio files folder within the project folder, then in project preferences, just enter audio files as the default path for the project, and reaper will put all recorded audio there.

I am sorry, but I make beats/loops (check my hip-hop beats on www.frozenjazz.com)...
And I use... Reaper !!
For the drums, I love Reasamplomatic 5000, along with the mediaexplorer.
You preview the sounds instantly, you drag'n'drop, you immediately see the wave form, can change the begin and end point with a click...
The only thing I badly need is "ghost" items, to be able to reuse a loop here and there, without having to copy paste.
But I do everything in Reaper, native.

Unlike most DAW software Reaper opens without having to save and name your project etc. before you start. If you just open Reaper and start recording reaper will save the recording under something like my documents\Reaper media files. Under options\preferences\recoding (recording path) You can set the default recording location to another directory like my audio drive G:Audio files. When you save the project file it promps you to move the audio into that directory as well as make a folder automatically for the project file. If the project is already saved all audio is saved to that directory inside the project folder if it was created.
You can use alt+enter audio settings tab to set a directory other than the project directory. If you would like to have all the media files in a folder inside the project folder just put what you would like to name the media folder in that space. Save that name for future project by clicking on "save as default project settings"
Peaks are the files Reaper creates to draw the waveforms. You can put all these into one file so you can safely delete them later. Reaper will use the audio file to recreate create them if you open the project back up later.

I think Zapp covered most of this, but:
Recording Path is where by default your raw recorded media is saved. As Zapp said, if you haven't created a path for the Project then this is where the files will end up. When get around to save your project, you get the option of moving these files to the new path, or a subfolder of that new path.
Render Path is where your renders, or mixdowns will save to. I prefer a subfolder of my project folder.
Peak Files are the little Pilot Fish files that accompany any media file used in a project and help REAPER draw the waveforms quickly. This is one reason why REAPER project load up so much quicker than other DAWs. I prefer to keep them with the recording files.
