question about volume in item properties (audio file)

so i have a couple of audio files that say (for example + 6db) on them when i want them to be at 0

i go into item properties and i cant change to zero (or i do, but it reverts back once i sloe and re open item properties)

i can change the volume of the waveform but shift and arrow key but it always defaults to the same

i have volume automation on the track but not to this level. when i turn the automation off it still does it

am i missing something obvious?

edit sorted it. must have been the volume automation after all i think ill continue my old practise of using a plug in for this. was going to try the "native" volume automation in reaper because of the handy trim/read mode but its still preferable to use a plug in imo
