Hi,
I have found a nice solution:
I run a windows 7, 64bit machine, quad core with 6gb ram and wanted to use my "old" super mpu 64.
Using this method, you will be able to use any "old" hardware:
requirements:
1. a hypervisor:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypervisor
I'm using virtualbox:
https://www.virtualbox.org/
2. the driver of your device
3. a "midi over LAN" solution
I'm using rtpMIDI:
http://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/rtpmidi.html
4. 1,5 Gb of harddisk space
this is how I have done it:
1. set up a virtual winXP, with a HOST only Network, minimalistic setup, that means only necassary services running.
just for orientation:
when "my" virtual windows is running, it fills 1,2 gb virtual hard drive space and 55MB of RAM. there is some CPU usage: windows task manager shows 7-10 for virtual box inside of windows 7.
2. install USB drivers inside virtual winXP
3. connect the super MPU 64 to the windows 7 64 bit maschine and then "forward" it to the virtual winXP.
the moment you do it, winXP recognizes it and installs the driver
4. install rtpMIDI on windows 7 and virtual winXP
Apples Bonjour is recommended.
you can also setup manually without bonjour
here is the tutorial:
http://www.tobias-erichsen.de/softwa...-tutorial.html
5. when both maschines "see" each other over rtpMIDI you go to your windows 7 favorite DAW and select the MIDI Port, which you just configured in rtpMIDI
here we go on with our little black box!
now I wanted to listen to Steinbergs "the Grand", but it is not running smoothly on 64bit, yuck!
can somebody recommend a great piano VST?
best regards
KJ
