Try Ripple Editing. It has three modes. Disabled, per-track and all tracks. You'll find it in the default toolbar above the track control panels. It's a matrix of dots, three by three. Click on it to cycle the ripple edit modes and see what happens.

Thanks, I know these modes (I also have my F1, F2, F3, F4 Shortcuts which simulate the PT Modes), but the requested behavior isn't there in ripple mode...

Reaper appears to be arriving at audio and midi editing one tool at a time (albeit still at a primitive stage with many of them). Ripple editing is still just one of those to slowly develop. Probably because Protools was developed with the Edit window as home base, all these functions could be found in the same place. Shuttle mode and most other functions are executed on active track selections. Reaper's approach is to cleverly conceive of new approaches (where no tool may have yet gone) based upon lots of user feedback. Why Reaper does not act upon active track selections is still beyond me. All I can continue to say is, "Thanks for listening":

deek it is not automatic:
- enable the ripple editing.
- grab the latter of the two items you want to split with the third, and move it to the right. Notice how all the items that follow move too (on all tracks if ripple all is selected).
- move the 3rd item into place
- close the gap.

Yeah, I know, probably there are more than one way to do this. I also can handle this and have no really editing problems... everything is fine. It just would be very nice, if there would be an option to handle this like in PT.
There are many other things that are much better than in PT and after some month of using Reaper I am faster in editing than ever before and don't look back... but this little thing would make editing live yet a little more easier :-)

Poor shan… so hardworking and bright. We'll miss him and his work here
Have You ever tried using custom actions to mimic tool-style behaviour? When You e.g. build a custom "delete" action, put it in an actions panel and right-click it, the function gets locked in so You can use it as you would use a tool. Then e.g. select a region/time selection and it gets deleted instantly. This also works with split and other operations. Unfortunately I haven't had time to refine my tools. But I'm quite sure something like fade tools and so on would be possible, too.
I'm quite sure I found this idea here in the forums (in some kind of ex-logic-user-discussion), but I can't find it right now. Sorry for that.

The custom-action-button-arming that you're talking about is great but has one major drawback. Last time I checked, arming a toolbar-button doesn't allow the mouse cursor to change over an edit area (such as a fade area or edge of an item) *untill you click*.........
It's *just a UI issue* but an extremely inconvenient one; I think there is a FR around for this behaviour to be changed.
What this needs to be fully functional is:
- toolbar button arming DOES NOT affect the normal mouse cursor "zone" display (ie cursor over a fade area)
- user can create and assign a custom cursor to be used when a button is armed
- this custom cursor should change back to the standard context cursor when mouse is over an edit-area
I'll check the tracker and make a FR if there isn't one yet.

Just got carried away with some very extreme custom theming:
The SWS Track List never looked so good.

When stashbox goes down(happens now and then), the images wont show as they are being hosted elsewhere. Seems to be back up.

If there was a way to do one for OSX, I would definitely do it. I must say though that both the REAPER and PT default themes look great in it(as shown in post #614). I like the Windows 7 Aero theme on it's own, but in my opinion, it looks horrid and gaudy when it's hosting dark themed UI's like REAPER and Pro Tools.

Although not entirely related to the current direction of this thread, I figured I'd mention that, as a Pro Tools convert, I started out by doing what I could to make Reaper's editing mimic Pro Tools', but now I've essentially made my own shortcut toolkit that makes sense to me, and it's so much better for me than Pro Tools I can't even explain. With one hand on the keyboard, I can easily perform 90% of the editing & clean up I need to do without even clicking the mouse.
The point is, changing Reaper to match Pro Tools' editing is one thing, but when you really realize how awesome it is to be able to MAKE a program intuitive to how YOU think, things get quite cool

Shan, could you guide me on setting the color template of your theme ? I'm not quite sure where to set the color ranges with the SWS color tool.
Also what are your media item color settings ? If you could do a screencap of the example, I would greatly appreciate it. Cheerios!

I didn't use the color range. I just used the colors found in PT. The blend modes are key. I haven't had much time to find the exact blend mode parameters. Should be easy to deduce though.

The Pro Tools color set is found in this post:
http://forum.cockos.com/showpost.php...&postcount=191
Blend modes are essential if you're looking for a 100% match.

It's PT LE with the SWS Tracklist sitting next to the PT Tracklist for comparison. It's theme was changed by themeing Windows itself, which is shown a few posts down.

It was only a matter of time:

Custom themes in the new DP 7.2:

I'm sure this themieng trend will expand out to every other major DAW now at some point. Oh REAPER, look what you've started.

Wow those look sweet! The one you posted almost looks a little pro tools 8ish, i think some of them look really eye pleasing and i like the knobs a lot. i looked at the rest of them and some are pretty good, i would love a theme like the one you posted for Reaper, buttons and all, would definitely be happy with that. I bet White Tie could whip something like that up
