I don't know how much of Justin is still in it, but there you have it: winamp for mac. shouldn't it be called macamp then?

There have been a few unofficial Mac versions already several years ago, titled WinampMac, Macamp, and WinampX if I remember correctly. None of them were too usable though. Will try this one!

Edit: And this one's even worse. No drag'n'drop support, no "Now playing" playlist, Cmd-A doesn't work in import dialogue... Forget it.

I used Winamp a decade ago, and loved it.

Switched to VLC for simplicity but... seeing as it's justin-made, it must be good, eh? Maybe it'll work better for streaming youtube than VLC? (I'm on Windows, maybe this should be a different topic).

The links refers to one of the comments by the other developer. Justin has sold Winamp to AOL in 2000. Then he worked there for 4 years.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winamp
Dmitry Boldyrev was the second developer.

That's actually incorrect -- Dmitry made a mp3 player for the mac called MacAmp, showed it to me, then I made Winamp. He helped inspire Winamp but I would not call him a developer of Winamp (by that logic, Sonic Foundry would be a developer of REAPER, which it is obviously not).

But anyway, since it's on Wikipedia, and the references point to a few spots where Dmitry takes credit, good luck correcting it.

Maybe it will then be hard to remove Dimitri's claim about it, but they can allow a note about your own point of view. I wonder if your blog post would be considered enough for a source.

I checked the sources, and they don't have sources for their own statement, so there is pretty high hope an edit will be accepted. Also, I don't see in these sources any clear statement Dmitry takes credit, seems more that articles writers introduced the confusion.

Such is the case with Dmitry Boldyrev, one of the developers at Nullsoft, creators of the most popular MP3 players, WinAmp and MacAmp.

"MP3 encoded songs are absolutely legal. Some people use them to distribute copyrighted music on the Net, but not everyone," says Boldyrev. "At this point I'd like to refer you to www.kosmic.org for free MP3 music they have been releasing lately."
Dmitry doesn't refer to Winamp in his quote.

Ok, thanks for the explanation. Probably he just wanted to get more money from your project.

Interesting news, AOL sold Winamp to Radionomy. This is good news. I like this.
