Default (Not Reaper specific) Security updates for Logic X Pro

US CERT just sent out an advisory about Logic Pro X. Apple's released an update to 10.3.1 to fix a memory corruption issue which could allow a maliciously crafted GarageBand project file to do bad stuff to your host. Meaning you could download a GarageBand file and find it side-loaded malware onto your music box or laptop.

Since malware is prominent, since a lot of Reaper users also use Logic, and since a lot of us exchange project files either for tutorials, demos, or with collaborative partners, this is worth sharing. (I'm also a security guy by day, so this stuff catches my attention.)

Cheers.

This dates back already a few months, I think.

So either there's a new problem found in Logic and Garageband, or US-CERT is late...

The 10.3.1 update was released by Apple yesterday, 2/21:

As was the US CERT bulletin:
https://www.us-cert.gov/ncas/current...ecurity-Update

There was an update for Logic Pro X 10.3 and GarageBand 10.1.5 released in January.

That may be what you're thinking of. It looks like this is a separate update.

I don't know when the exploit was first reported, that's between Cisco Talos and Apple. I'm just spreadin the word.

Peace.
